Romney: A Mistake for McCain
Real Clear Politics ^ | 07/23/3008 | Dick Morris

Posted on 07/23/2008 5:33:00 PM PDT by JRochelle

You've probably heard the story about the tycoon who wanted to bring out a new kind of dog food.

He spent lavishly. He hired the best marketing person, the top PR firm, the best ad agency, the No. 1 packaging expert, the most powerful distributor -- but the sales were flat after six months.

He summoned his consultants to a meeting and asked why the food wasn't selling. "The dogs won't eat it," was the answer that came back.

And so it is with Mitt Romney. Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries, the dogs won't eat it. He lost Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and California. The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states; and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals couldn't spare the cash to advertise. Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.

And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries. Using his gigantic money advantage to dominate television, he seized early leads in virtually all of the primary states, only to lose them later on. And, when they started slipping away, he resorted to unfair, distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges.

I’m not here 16 hours a day or 7 days a week.

That’s an exaggeration.. just like your “facts” about Mitt Romney.

Judge Robert Bork supports Romney

"He knows firsthand how the judicial branch can profoundly affect the future course of a state and a nation.
I greatly admired his leadership in Massachusetts in the way that he responded to the activist court's ruling legalizing same-sex 'marriage.'
His leadership on the issue has served as a model to the nation on how to respect all of our citizens while respecting the rule of law at the same time."

Shameful how Slick Willard lied to Judge Bork. I guess if he has no hesistation to lie to us “pissant voters”, he has no hesistation lying to old men.

Michael Novak supports Mitt Romney too

"But the attacks upon Romney's religion have been a last straw. They are just not fair. I remember his father's campaigns and what an upright man he was — and no one even breathed a word against him because of his religion."

“Slick’s no natural Conservative. He’s a natural con-man.”

Sort of like McCain “got the message” during the primaries, then forgot the message when he wanted to pander to Hispanics after he had the nomination won?

Now that’s a natural con man, all within one presidential campaign season (and it ain’t over yet). And he’ll still change his positions on drilling some more, I bet.

Romney’s changes have come over a few years, and during his move from uber-liberal politics in Mass. to conservative politics in a national Republican contest. That’s been done before and it’ll be done again. He was pretty consistent all during the primaries and after, unlike McCain.

I agree with you on Romney. He is probably one of the brightest, most capable politicians we have seen since Reagan. He brings an intelligence and energy unmatched by any of the current luminaries on the scene. He is also a true executive who can rein in the Washington bureaucracy.

It probably would be better for Romney not to associate himself with the McCain and tarnish his reputation for a run in 2012. McCain is going to be trounced. Far better for Romney to help pick up the pieces for the GOP after this election is over.
