Romney: A Mistake for McCain
Real Clear Politics ^ | 07/23/3008 | Dick Morris

Posted on 07/23/2008 5:33:00 PM PDT by JRochelle

You've probably heard the story about the tycoon who wanted to bring out a new kind of dog food.

He spent lavishly. He hired the best marketing person, the top PR firm, the best ad agency, the No. 1 packaging expert, the most powerful distributor -- but the sales were flat after six months.

He summoned his consultants to a meeting and asked why the food wasn't selling. "The dogs won't eat it," was the answer that came back.

And so it is with Mitt Romney. Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries, the dogs won't eat it. He lost Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and California. The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states; and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals couldn't spare the cash to advertise. Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.

And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries. Using his gigantic money advantage to dominate television, he seized early leads in virtually all of the primary states, only to lose them later on. And, when they started slipping away, he resorted to unfair, distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges.

Morris is so full of it...remember who he worked for. He ran two of Jesse Helms campaigns.. is that who you mean?

There is one VP nominee that McCain could chose that would insure that Obama is our next president. That is Mitt Romney. I like Romney but Evangelicals will not vote for a Morman. No Republican can win without the evangelicals.

“He just doesn’t help us enough to do something like this, as much as Mitt might think we should. He doesn’t even win us Massachusetts.”

And what genius ever thought Mitt would win Mass. for a Republican ticket? If that’s the possibility McCain people have been contemplating, they need a new team of analysts. No serious person would ever think Mitt or any Republican could pull Mass. away from the Dems. in a presidential election.

I saw the thread where this McCain insider supposedly relayed all that information. But, as McCain lovers as so apt to say. Where else are they gonna go? Do they think Mitt puts southern states into the Obama column?

I put little or no value on that so-called insider report. Mitt would be the best campaigner, and he campaigned little in the south earlier. He could win over many conservatives if he actually campaigned in their states and spoke to their concerns.

Calling all Romney bashers...

No matter who it is it will not be good enough even though the VP slot means almost nothing in terms of substance. So I ask who else other than Romney has natural stature and will help elect McCain? I'm sure there are others but who are they?

Putting Slick Willard on the ticket will force McCain to have to shore up areas (especially in the South) he wouldn’t have to bother with otherwise. It’s a boneheaded move. I know several people who will NOT vote for the GOP ticket if that untrustworthy, flipflopping RINO liberal phony is on it, period.

Give me John Bolton for VP. He'd crush whomever Obama picks in the debates.

Mark Sanford. The best Governor in the country. A Conservative who does what he says and says what he does. Not a slick, liberal used car salesman who has to “buy” support like *omney.

He might, but I doubt it. We’ve been floating his name for TN Governor in 2010 (to stop Bill Frist).

Yea, that’s what we need....a ticket with 5 marriages between them.

Are you counting on the “adoring ex-wives vote?

Okay....

J C Watts, to bring a conservative to the ticket, or,

Walter Williams, to bring youth to the ticket.

Although Dick Morris often make errors of extrapolation,
he is usually spot on in accurate descriptions, as here.

There is but one logical choice.

The "Warrior and the Woman" (will Win BIG
attacting a large fraction of the pro-Hillary frustrated Democrat women
in every one of the 50 (yes, Obama, that is 50) states ;-)X.)

Alaska House OKs Gas Pipeline Plan for North Slope - July 23, 2008
JUNEAU, Alaska -- Alaska's House of Representatives has approved a company's plan
to pursue a natural gas pipeline that could unlock 4.5 billion cubic feet of gas reserves a day.
Lawmakers in Alaska's House voted to support Gov. Sarah Palin's proposal to award TransCanada Corp.
an exclusive license to pursue federal certification for the 1,715-mile North Slope pipeline.

Is not THAT special. The rest talk (or less)
and Gov. Palin actually did something
(other than seeking federal bailouts for everything like Romney).

John Kasik? His own view on politics from JohnKasik.com

"I look at it today, and I don’t even recognize politics any more. It’s all about name-calling. It’s all about winning elections at all costs. Whether you abandon your principles or not, it doesn’t matter. It’s all about, ‘I got re-elected.’ Re-elected to do what?

"Now in politics today, it’s not enough to just defeat your opponent in an election. You’ve got to figure out how to destroy him, how to bring negativity not just on him, but on his children and his spouse. How do you think we’re ever going to get any good people to want to be public servants if from the minute you step into the line of fire until the minute you step out, they shoot you down? We can’t afford this any more."
