U.S. government: We know parenting better than you
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | July 24, 2008 | Chelsea Schilling

Posted on 07/24/2008 2:32:46 AM PDT by Man50D

The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to debate two bills that could give the federal government unprecedented control over the way parents raise their children – even providing funds for state workers to come into homes and screen babies for emotional and developmental problems.

The Pre-K Act (HR 3289) and the Education Begins at Home Act (HR 2343) are two bills geared toward military and families who fall below state poverty lines. The measures are said to be a way to prevent child abuse, close the achievement gap in education between poor and minority infants versus middle-class children and evaluate babies younger than 5 for medical conditions.

'Education Begins at Home Act' – HR 2343

HR 2343 is sponsored by Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., and cosponsored by 55 Democrats and 11 Republicans. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that implementing the Education Begins at Home Act would cost taxpayers $190 million for state home visiting, plus "such sums as may be necessary" for in-hospital parent education.

This is scary. It’s the government trying to control how people can raise their own children. It sounds like they want to make sure the children are indoctrinated with liberalism from the time they leave the womb. The Founding Fathers must be spinning in their graves.

Just the nose of the camel under the tent. Eventually they will have access to every home. Even now the AMA has doctors asking kids all kinds of personal questions about the parents. Is there a gun in the House? Does daddy ever touch you in a way that makes you uncomfortable? Does Mom or Dad smoke pot? etc.

Being a liberal parent (if you didn’t abort your kid at the outset) should be considered a form of child abuse.

Thanks for that info.

I was simply giving the AMA and what they are doing as an example of what to expect once the government gets access and then control of the kids. Perhaps I should have taken baby steps, pun intended, from one subject to the next but I assumed you could follow along.

Sometimes a government school defender will claim that government schools can look for and report abuse in the institutionalized children in their care.

I have joked:

Well...Why not have NEA workers snatch infants from their mother's arms in the delivery room? The infants could be raised in newborn government boarding schools. Why? Answer: Because,..hey!...Some parents might abuse their children.

Well....It appears the the joke is no longer a joke and is becoming a reality. :-(

One of these bills includes a provision for "socioemotional screening." Very scary, indeed. Here's a little more info on it:

Government sponsored and controlled universal mental health screening, no matter how sweetly wrapped in the fig leaf of parental consent, should never, ever be implemented. It is never, EVER, the proper role of government to set norms for, assess or intervene in the thoughts and emotions of free citizens, much less innocent, vulnerable, and still developing children. It is our thoughts and emotions that make each of us uniquely and individually human, and we use these thoughts and emotions to understand the world and maintain our inalienable right to liberty.

We are all well aware that the parental consent or opt-out language referred to for this bill is just a way to assuage concerns long enough to put this dangerous system into place. Once it is passed with parental consent, that language will either be changed by future legislators, not enforced, or side stepped in some other way. The non-existent enforcement of the federal Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment on invasive surveys is a classic example of this phenomenon. Another is the lack of parental notification of their rights in current Minnesota statute 121A.17 to decline to answer the part of the screening that involves invasive and subjective assessment of family risk factors, or that parents may have their child’s screening administered by private providers, or that no preschool screening is required if it is against the conscientiously held beliefs of the parents.

Socioemotioal screening

I am reminded of the INS swat team that kidnapped Elian Gonzales. A few days later they had a party to celebrate their successful swat action.

Bureaucrats in every department of the government throughout the local, state, and federal level **WILL** fully and completely support and uphold any COMMUNIST take over of the United States.

Thankful we have a military and, I believe that the vast majority of these good men take their oath to uphold and **defend** the Constitution very seriously.

**ALL** liberals are communists. They are never satisfied. They are riding the communist train. All social programs passed are merely insignificant train station stops. They final destination is and always has been: Marxist Utopia-land!!

All "progressives" are merely progressing toward communism!

It is time we called these people what they **really** are: Marxists and Communists!

Stamp out any kind of government intrusion of your lives (like get out of public schools) to begin to help to kill the beast.

I always found it interesting that the Bible in allegorical verses will liken governments to beasts. God knows what he is talking about!

SIGH and every time I have asked you have failed to answer (except with your patented avoidance joke)

Where does the majority of abuse occur?

For the rest of you the answer is that 84 percent of ALL abuse occurs in the home situation.

Now wintertime will say something to the effect of "Then we should not let parents have children at all and institutionalize them all."

Committing the logical fallacy of Reducto ad absurdium, because she does not have an answer to that.

This is truly frightening. When will we as Americans understand that the the government can’t possibly manage everything in our lives as efficiently, effectively, quickly, and cheaply as we can? I’m tired of this progressive move towards statism and government control in all walks of life. And both candidates are moving us in that direction. Sigh.

Read “Conflict of Visions” (Sowell)

to see why the left thinks that it IS better to centralize control over all aspects of living.

It has to do with their rejection of the idea of inherently flawed (sinner) humans, and their concept of the perfectability of the human. Some are more perfect than others, and therefore deserve to (and are obligated to) make decisions for others.

My response has been that I don’t care if you don’t think it can happen here or not.

And she would be right. That's where this is heading. The *Brave New World*.

This legislation is just one more step in that direction. If you can't see that she's right, you have a major blind spot.

As a matter of fact, I don't see your objection to this unwarranted, massive government intrusion into the private lives of people. Yes, the majority of abuse occurs at home, but is governmental monitoring the answer?

Is giving the state the right to come into your home to check up on you the answer?

Does abuse never occur in government controlled settings?

Can the government guarantee that with this program that abuse will not occur?

If it can't, and it can't, then there's absolutely no justification for the smallest bit of this legislation.

Please set your animosity towards me aside for a minute. One of the lies that wintertime likes to spread is that "Children are safer at home"

Well the studies I have posted several times show that it is an outright lie.

84% of ALL abuse occurs in a home situation.

Instead of defending her position, she gives her standard non-answer or "well lets take them from the parents and put them in institutions" Which is the logical fallacy of reducto ad absurdium.

She never answers the challenge.

Most abuse occurs outside of the government school setting. I will say that is likely correct!

So?...What is the abuse rate per hour?

Kids spend 6 to 7 hours in school, 180 days a year, and many kids ride the bus to and from school for up to 2 to 3 hours a day. How many hours is that?

So..Per hour is the abuse rate higher in the government school or at home.

Answer: I bet it is higher in school or an even wash! ( My guess!)

What percentage of time do children spend at home? Let’s adjust that for age and correlate it to abuse reports. I bet they’re not too different.

Even if kids are not safer at home, tough. The government cannot be allowed to make policies that affect millions of innocent people for the sake of a handle of guilty people. Otherwise, why not just lock everyone up?

Once again *Time out*

I was just point out the absurdity of wintertime's position

I am 100% against government intrusion, and I am 1000% home schooling (Wintertime that is the correct way of spelling that)

I believe I told you on another thread that as a Public school teacher I can give you a list of about 2 dozen students who I would love to see home schooled (Wintertime that is the correct way of spelling that as well)

As a mater of fact I offered to help wintertime take in a number of students from the Frederick Douglas school in Baltimore, so that she could prove how well her system of education works.

She showed us just how serious she was by refusing to do it.
