1:42 p.m.: SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned that Obama has cancelled a planned short visit to the Rammstein and Landstuhl US military bases in the southwest German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The visits were planned for Friday. "Barack Obama will not be coming to us," a spokesperson for the US military hospital in Landstuhl announced. "I don't know why." Shortly before the same spokeswoman had announced a planned visit by Obama.

Maybe he just isn’t “feeling the love” he thought he would. Not receiving the “reverence” he had hoped for (as mentioned on his trip to Jerusalem).
He probably expected them to 'troop the guard' for him like the Grenadiers do for QE on her birthday - must have been a huge disappointment for him./s

"UPDATE: A very interesting email from a source I must protect suggests that Obama's visit to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center had the green light until a campaign staffer raised a stink about going with Obama. (There are rules meant to ensure candidates do not use soldiers or military bases for campaign purposes, and they state that personal and committee staff may accompany a sitting senator on a visit but campaign staff may not.) I am told that when one of Obama's campaign staff was told he or she would be denied access, the visit was canceled.
The last-minute cancellation speaks more poorly of this unidentified staffer than of Obama himself. But in the end, shouldn't Obama have been able to say, "fine, the staffer stays in Berlin (or where-ever) and I'm going to Landstuhl? Can he still say so?"

As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram, Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to “The War Zone.” I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram,
As the Soldiers were lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn’t say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the Clam Shell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with
weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.
So really he was just here to make a showing for the American’s back homethat he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.
I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don’t understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

Can’t stand the sight of blood, can you, Barry? Or is it because in a military hospital, visitors, particularly non-dependents, are required to observe/show silence, solemnity, respect, and empathy (the real kind) to the wounded, and you just don’t have it in you to do that?

Thank you for sharing that account. I hope more soldiers come forward with these observations. It seems the first thing on Obama’s mind is his career, with country and soldiers further down the list.
Of course, today he had that all important 35 min. speech to give. He mentioned a few big topics with no specifics and barely more depth than a Miss America contestant. (”We have to come together for World Peace”. etc.)
Since half the threads I start on this website which I provide all the required information in the posting fields and I believe fall under the FR categories provided are deleted by the mods for reasons that remain a mystery to me, I really shouldn’t respond how I really feel about the subject of this thread or I’ll be banned for life. I believe most of us here at FR know this already; but, it is unfortunate that so many of our fellow Americans can be so easily scammed by this guy.
I have to say,though, that I did see some video of BO getting something to eat with our soldiers. He was sitting at a table with them, I'm not sure if this was Iraq or Afghanistan. My first reaction was to wonder if there were no "white" soldiers who wanted to sit at the table with him because everyone there seemed to be "black". (sorry if my political IN-correctness bothers anyone)
think of the problem for leftists: America is just another country that should be run to the ground. So how can Obama be the leader of the world if he is president of the US? He should be in charge of a truly great country such as Cuba.

4:49 p.m.: Obama enters the luxury Ritz Carlton hotel wearing a T-shirt, black sweatpants and white trainers — apparently to work out in the hotel's gym. He kept up the campaigning on the way there, smiling and waving at tourists and other onlookers.
What would be the point of Obama visiting the troops?
We know he despise the troops. He knows he despises the troops. He knows the troops despise him. The troops know that he knows they despise him.
This would have been the chance for one of our heroes to spit in Obama’s face or tell him to FO before he actually became the serviceman’s CINC.
