There have been numerous calls in recent days for Michael Savage, who hosts "The Michael Savage Show" for Talk Radio Network (the "Network"), to be fired or suspended for his brief 84 seconds of commentary concerning autism during the July 16th broadcast of the Show.
Promptly after the Network's management learned of the comments in issue, the Network commenced an investigation into the particulars and the circumstances of those comments. This investigation began with the Network's CEO, Mark Masters, personally contacting Dr. Savage to address the concerns and obtain an explanation of the comments directly from Dr. Savage.
In that conversation, and other subsequent conversations between Mr. Masters and Dr. Savage, Dr. Savage explained the circumstances and intent of his statements in considerable detail. The Network also carefully monitored subsequent broadcasts of the Show, on Monday, July 21st and Tuesday, July 22nd, which were devoted to the subject of autism and further explanations by Dr. Savage of his views on the subject.

PING
Better not to give his website the ping to read it.
I encourage Weiner to speak out on AIDS, mental retardation, PMS and other touchy subjects which he holds no degrees in.
More signs that when Obama is POTUS Media Matters will have a seat at the table and most likely someone from there will receive an appointment to FCC by Obama.
Mike beat them back this time, but they will keep up until he is gone. Sad to say.
Things to come...........
Private companies can get rid of anyone they want. I can think of endless examples of ways that would get me fired from my current job based solely on what I say.
Weiner fans are trying to use the "gubment" to scare idiots who don't know the difference.
“Better not to give his website the ping to read it.”
I would suggest you do.
I don't listen much, but this railroading by Media Matters is reprehensible!
I think it would be wrong to fire Savage over this. Children are being over-diagnosed and overly drugged. Savage made a point that wasn’t that out of line. It’s good that he feels the freedom to say what he thinks. That’s why he is popular. He makes a lot of good comments it would be ashame to shut him up.
Savage can say whatever the hell he wants about whatever topic he wants. I’m not a fan, but this is ridiculous.
It doesn't matter that Media Matters is out to get him, Weiner is a severe embarrassment to anyone who calls themselves Conservative.
I don’t like Savage. I think he’s an egotistical, mean-spirited blowhard, but I think he’s got the right to say what he said and not be fired for it. Let his listeners fire him by not tuning in. Too many easily offended types running around.
I’m not a big fan of Savage and disagree with his autism comment BUT I have no problem with him having the opinion and shouldn’t lose his job because he said it. It is better that the discussion on autism continue because IMHO it is being ignored and at the same time there is a great deal of irresponsible diagnoses being done by school nurses.
The very last time I listened to his show he had Chuck Schumer as a guest.
I could not turn the dial fast enough.
it’s not as if he doesn’t have any credibility
he has a PhD and has written health related books including, “healing children naturally” which i had read long before he was “savage”
i happen to agree that the psychological and medical communities are too quick to give the ADD ADHD diagnosis and have broadened the diagnosis of autism, that would explain the 1000% increase in autism
one of my children would fit into the broad spectrum of higher function austism with some of her idiosyncrasies
i used to teach, i have seen just how many kids are on ritalin, and the schools do push for this
I encourage you to read more than just the title of the article.
Media Matters. Should have guessed it.
HOWever, he may piss off some gay or bi-sexual (or enabler) freepers..
Who are in the tank for many other things filthy and repugnant..
Liberalism is indeed a mental disorder.. and so is being gay in many or most instances..
Savage exaggerates to make a point, but hes basically correct. Theres no shortage of medical experts who can come up with handy excuses for lazy parents who need to explain to themselves and others why their children are undisciplined failures. And, of course, pharmaceutical companies gotta absolutely adore lazy moms.
Autism has simply become the latest catch-all. Medical experts have been continually expanding the definition of autism as they find “new, previously undiagnosed” forms of this “disability”. (Hang onto your wallets.)
I guess those other recently discovered bogus excuses, ADD and ADHD, have grown stale.
“Autism”, too, will eventually get over-hyped to the point that it elicits only a bored yawn. And something new will take it’s place. Meanwhile, taxpayers’ wallets will always end up getting fleeced.
I support the radio personalitity’s right to say whatever is clearly understood between him and his employer to be appropriate.
And I support the employer’s right to fire the radio personality if that understanding is breached.
I personally don’t listen to the this radio personality, because I don’t enjoy him, I don’t find him informative, persuasive, or in any way helpful to the conservative cause.
I genrally DO listen to conservative radio personalities; Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Elder, etc. At times they can be provocative.
If you like him, go ahead and listen to him. Just don’t overlook his employer, who pays his salary.
I believe in this case Savage claimed “99% of autism diagnoses are incorrect.” I am certain he is wrong, and certain he purposely overstates his claim to generate controversy. To increase his ratings in the short term.
But like I said, I don’t listen to his show. Don’t need that in my daily adventures with life and good people.
I’ll take intelligence and common sense over degrees any time. Degree holding fools are a dime a dozen. Besides, where do they award degrees in AIDS, mental retardation, PMS, etc?
a funny place called medical school...
well chuck had a moment of sanity for once, he was against the dubai ports deal, probably because so many repugs were for it , or he wasn’t greased by dubai lobbyists. Savage went back to hammering schumer not too long after that. While I am sure you enjoyed listen to Rush talk about how good a deal to have Dubai running our ports.
Did you see the first thread about this, man I can believe how some people took offence because they knew 1 person that had it. HELLO maybe they are the 1% now stfu, I know 99% is not correct but 40% might be.
With regard to Dubai Ports
The unions went berserk over the idea that their members would have to undergo security clearance.
You must realize that the longshoreman working our ports are not as pure as the driven snow.
I don’t recall Rush taking a strong position on the ports issue.
When you have the likes of Menendez and his ilk ranting against having ‘arabs’ running our ports you begin to wonder, don’t you?
Don't be confused. My comment has everything to do with not only this story, but the loud mouthed bi-polar ticking time-bomb known as Weiner.
