The CNN numbers on my post 19 are a little different but tell the same story. To sum it up, there is no shift to Obama. It is about the same percentage voting Democrat among Veterans as always. Maybe a little less.

This business about self reporting who is and who is not a veteran reminds me of a poll I saw after the last election. While the actual election drew an acceptable 60% of registered voters, those who REPORTED have voted came to 87%!!!!! So on this poll I call bull shiite, big time! Apparently more men are embarrassed about NOT having served ( because of 911 - ask the ones you know and they will admit that ) than we thought. The estimates I've seen are that there are about 21 million veterans. If McCain is getting 56% of them that is a major benefit. Look we aren't going to win 100 to zero. barack mcgovern WILL get at least 45 million morons to vote for him. Hey mondull and the original mcgovern got enough votes to win every other election but two and both of them got their asses handed to them.

Yep. I do not know why people get in an uproar if a Republican doesn’t snatch 60-70% of the military vote, the thing is that the volunteer military has been broken down into two sides. Those who are there to serve and those who are there for the benefits. Those who are there just for the benefits usually break towards the dems. I do not have a study showing that, but I would bet if you did I would be right on the money.

I'm afraid the 37% are all about race and little substance.

Take your kids out of that youth center. Don’t let them be a party to that propaganda. Seriously, if you let it go, things will only get worse.

How do I figure? McCain was a Vietnam veteran, POW, and comes from a highly distinguished military family. Despite his other faults, he has always been strong on defense and a supporter of the military. Due to this record, McCain should have at least a 2-1 advantage over Obama who has no military record whatsoever.

Bush had a weak military record and Kerry, while a Vietnam veteran, was weak on defense and a fraud. So, I understand more the Bush v. Kerry numbers.

“I’m afraid the 37% are all about race and little substance.”

Well, it does break down that way initially, but then that only accounts for 2/3’s of that demographic, the remaining 1/3 of that roughly 37% is also the Gay and Lesbian groups, that up until Slick Willie ran for office were not all that vocal a political action group. That duffus only embolden them — and tried to turn the military into a social experiment…its not a college campus — It’s the Military, I wish they would get that straight in their heads.

“It is about the same percentage voting Democrat among Veterans as always. Maybe a little less.”

I pretty much agree with your statement - ever since 9/11, we actually saw a shift in highly motivated, dedicated young men and women reporting to duty after that (not just benifit hounds);

“It was my orders to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps [Navy}. Do you maggots understand that?” ~ Gunny Hartman, an inspiration to us all.

The weak one’s didn’t last very long...the prospect of actually going on a long deployment into the Gulf scared a lot of lightweights off...Thank God.

I understand McCain/Obama are speaking jointly at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church.

Warren is a Traitor by The Constitution who went to Syria while that country was and is engaged in killing and maiming American Forces in Iraq.

McCain should know better, having had to endure the likes of Jane Fonda taking aim at American planes over Hanoi. Either that or he obviously doesn't care.

Damn them both for the Senators they are.

Pthuh!

They are only there from 8 am until 1 pm, and they really like the program. It bothers me, but we talk about what a whack job Obama is everyday, and how his supporters don’t want him to win to help keep our country strong, but to gain benefits for themselves, etc.
Our kids have been raised in an uber patriotic lifestyle. At our last home, my 11 year old saw his best friend suffer the loss of his Dad in Afghanistan.
They see through the crap.
Cheers!

Not really. Some vets just realize that “this is not the McCain I once knew”.

I wonder what the demographics of the veterans in the study are. I would venture that the disparity between white and black veterans supporting Obama is significant.

“I do not know why people get in an uproar if a Republican doesn’t snatch 60-70% of the military vote”

We have to remember this 57% to 37% poll is not active duty military, it is of those who marked themselves off as a veteran - and that covers allot of people and age groups.
I would guess close to 60% of the military would always vote for the most conservative pro-military candidate, and maybe 15% lean to the liberal candidate, with the balance going for the more likable guy or not voting at all. I don't think those numbers has changed much except when Reagan captured a huge majority of the military.

“The scary part: 37% of military veterans are voting for Obama.”

I find this totally shocking. ANYONE who has truely ever been in harms way has got to be upset thinking about what this BS clown is going to cause as CIC. I puke at the thought.

I’ve had reservations about all the candidates. I was a Thompson supporter til he dropped. I also supported Hunter, but he too, dropped out.

I don’t like McCain much... but he IS, regardless of his “lack of Conservative” leanings... a former military man, a former POW (Not his FAULT by the way regardless of how the Left would portray this) and certainly an honorable man for the most part.

Obama? In my opinion is a slime ball worse than bill clinton and though I wouldn’t want to see Hillary in office either, I sure as hell don’t want to see Obama as President.

He’s an egotistical Leftist. That’s the WORST sort of Marxist there is, short of being an outed Commie...

Anyone who is out campaigning in GERMANY of all places shouldn’t be elected as a dog catcher.

This Vet is voting for McCain.
