Today President Bush participated in a private fundraiser for Congressional candidate Aaron Schock in Peoria, Illinois.

The family of Tony Snow traveled with the President today on board Air Force One.

Press Secretary Dana Perino: The President invited them to come on a trip with him if they ever wanted to and the family decided that they would like to, so they're on board. They got a tour of the plane and they're up with the President now, and they'll be coming with -- just coming along for the ride, for the event. And hopefully we'll be able to show them a little bit about what Tony Snow did on a trip like this, and hopefully give them a little bit of comfort along the way if we can.

Before leaving the White House, President Bush issued an executive order that expands sanctions against the corrupt government of Zimbabwe. (Transcript)

The new Executive Order significantly enhances our ability to designate individuals in and entities connected to the Mugabe regime. Under the new Executive Order, the Treasury Department will today designate several of these government-controlled entities.

This action is a direct result of the Mugabe regime's continued politically-motivated violence, disregarding calls from the Southern African Development Community, the African Union, and the United Nations to halt the attacks.

The President also proclaimed July 27, 2008, the last Sunday in July, as Parents' Day. (Transcript)

On Parents' Day, we pay tribute to the parents who provide their children with guidance, support, and unconditional love and who help make our country a better place … and I encourage American sons and daughters to convey their love, respect, and appreciation to their parents.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with leaders and officials in Australia and New Zealand today.

The Week Ahead

Saturday & Sunday: President & Mrs. Bush will be at the White House.

Monday: President Bush will meet with Prime Minister Gillani of Pakistan in the Oval Office. That afternoon he will participate in a photo opportunity with members of the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program in the East Room.

Tuesday: The President will travel to Cleveland, Ohio to participate in a tour of Lincoln Electric Holdings, Incorporated. He will make remarks on energy and the economy there. And then he will participate in another Republican fundraiser in Gates Mills, Ohio.

Wednesday: The President will have a Cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room.

Dana Perino: I said the Cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room and I got no laughs, nothing. (Laughter.)

Q We're so busy writing down what you said. We're being diligent.

Thursday: President Bush will meet with the recipients of the Scouts in Action Commendation on the North Portico. Later that day he will travel to White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia to make remarks at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the West Virginia Coal Association. Then he and Mrs. Bush will travel to Kennebunkport, Maine, where they will stay for the weekend.

Friday through Sunday (August 3rd): No planned public events.

Monday (August 4th): President Bush begins his trip to Asia, starting in South Korea, then Thailand, and then China for the Olympics.

Dana Perino: Two week aheads for the price of one. And then probably to the ranch later that week; date to be determined.

Quote of the Day:

President Bush:

Parent’s Day 2008

Parents teach their children timeless values to help them make the most of life's opportunities and overcome its challenges. On Parents' Day, we pay tribute to the parents who provide their children with guidance, support, and unconditional love and who help make our country a better place.

Mothers and fathers are a source of stability and great comfort in society, and they have a vital obligation to love and care for their children. Through patient instruction and a loving example, they instill in children the principles that make our Nation strong and ensure that children have the skills to lead lives of character and integrity. As a child's primary teachers, parents are responsible for their child's education, and their efforts will contribute to a more hopeful future for our country. Parents can help shape our Nation by encouraging young people to make the right choices, become responsible citizens, and achieve their dreams.

My Administration remains dedicated to promoting Federal, State, and faith-based and community programs to assist American families and support healthy marriages and responsible parenting. We are committed to helping parents and schools enable the next generation of Americans to realize their full potential.

On Parents' Day, we honor mothers and fathers and thank them for their many years of patience and selflessness. We take this opportunity also to recognize parents of adopted children and foster parents, who generously provide children with a loving family to call their own. We also recognize the parents who serve in our Armed Forces and the parents of the brave men and women wearing our Nation's uniform. The members of our Armed Forces are defending our freedom with dignity and honor, and America is grateful for the sacrifices that they and their families make in the name of duty.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States and consistent with Public Law 103-362, as amended, do hereby proclaim Sunday, July 27, 2008, as Parents' Day. I call upon citizens, private organizations, and governmental bodies at all levels to engage in activities and educational efforts that recognize, support, and honor parents, and I encourage American sons and daughters to convey their love, respect, and appreciation to their parents.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-fourth day of July, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

GEORGE W. BUSH

It was so so kind and dear of our W to extend
his supreme graciousness to Tony Snow’s family.
Tony left such an indelible mark on this White
House. I have a feeling the Bushes will continue
to be there for them, in many ways.
