No. 44 Has Spoken (German puff piece on Obama)

No. 44 Has Spoken By Gerhard Spörl

Anyone who saw Barack Obama at Berlin's Siegessäule on Thursday could recognize that this man will become the 44th president of the United States. He is more than ambitious -- he wants to lay claim to become the president of the world.

It was a ton to absorb -- and what a stupendous ride through world history: the story of his own family, the Berlin Airlift, terrorists, poorly secured nuclear material, the polar caps, World War II, America's errors, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, freedom. It's amazing anyone could pack such a potpourri of issues into the space of a speech that lasted less than 30 minutes.

So what sticks? That Barack Obama is a passionate politician who is fixated on -- and takes very seriously -- his desire for a better world. That he is an impressive speaker who knows how to casually draw his audience into his image of the world -- one who doesn't have any need to resort to the kind of cheap effects that tend to prompt the uproarious applause of an audience. That he is a typical American -- an idealist in the true spirit of the American success story who is now very casually making his claim to becoming something akin to the president of the world.

McCain is 25 years his senior, a man who because of the torture he endured in Vietnam is in constant pain -- unable to comb his hair or lift his arm in celebration.

This passage in the article is rather unsettling. Does he mean that being old and wounded in Vietnam disqualifies McCain? Are photo-op and feel-goog speech all that matters? Boy, Euros are shallower than Americans.

Obama is all about today -- the "everybody really just wants to be brothers and save the world" utopia. As for us, we who sometimes admire and sometimes curse this somewhat anemic, pragmatic democracy, we will have to quickly get used to Barack Obama, the new leader of a lofty democracy that loves those big nice words -- words that warm our hearts and alarm our minds. Let's allow ourselves to be warmed today, by this man at the Victory Column. Then we'll take a further look.

This sounds a bit snide. Like maybe the shallow, Eurocentric feel-good isn't going to last.

The Obama speeches talk alot about “talk”...which is his idea of approaching all problems. I’m thinking Russia and China are going to love his administration because they will chat all day long, and engage in no fruitful results. Four years of Obama, means nothing achieved on a world scale. By 2012...a President Obama would be standing there....wondering what he can brag about in the next campaign that he actually achieved. Other than giving us money away...which is the same thing Clinton and Bush did...there isn’t much left to pride himself in. He might be able to bring peace to Haiti....but the last time I looked...there wasn’t much US chatter about this being in the top 1,000 problems that they’d like a US president to fix.

Yes, “Euros” are even shallower than most people give them “credit” for. However, it is the US voters who will decide on #44, and presently the opinion polls look uncomfortably similar to the generic polls (GOP/Dem) 2006.

I hope and pray that the US voters won’t fall for the leftist, islamophile, charlatan BHO.

"He is more than ambitious -- he wants to lay claim to become the president of the world."

Funny that a German writer can state this without an immediate sense of dread and disgust. Shows how far gone in BDS these Euro-socialists are, that they would grasp at a would be "President-of-the-World" from the USA, just so long as he is a socialist peacenik and Bush-hater.

We do not need or want a "President-of-the-World" thank you!! A POTUSA would be quite sufficient, and preferably one who is not more concerned to suck up to Euro-socialists and Islamo-fascists than to be a good President for AMERICA.

Obamessiah can go to hell.....

it is hard to imagine that John McCain has any chance... Europe is witnessing the 44th president of the United States during this trip.

Where do these foreign bastards get off telling us who's won before we've even voted? I don't love McCain. Heck, I don't even like him, but I think that a victory in November will be sweeter than any previous GOP win. It will be a pleasure to watch the entire leftist world weep in misery as the American voter rejects their messiah.

Like praising your hosts and criticizing the country YOU come from, spouting Utopian rhetoric, telling the listeners precisely what they want to hear? Yeah, good thing he didn't resort to any of THAT.

I go back and forth each day on this, but today I ain't feeling good about this election.

I thought one of the best quotes I've read here are FR went :

"Only an idiot like Hussein Obama goes to Germany and apologizes for unwarranted aggression."

The Germans will love him as long as he doesn't really ask anything of them beyond lofty rhetoric. And he can represent the idea that they were all right about leaving Saddam in power, which, after all, is the only way we can truly see the consequences of their belief that we should not have invaded Iraq and defeated the insurgents. This they all enthusiastically proclaim themselves right about without irony as Obama talks of US support to keep Berlin free, unlike Baghdad which was to remain a fiefdom of Saddam Hussein's and his evil sons.

And the only ones who do it better than Barry Obama are Miss World contestants... "World peace, feed hungry children, ..."

“Well, a young man (woman, child or pet)...ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days...

You know the old man, he’s got all the money...and a young man (woman, child or pet)...ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days...

You know in the old days, people stepped back...when a young man walked by...but a young man (woman, child or pet)...ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days...”

This is still the mindset. As if the world has not changed enough that a Barack “O’Brahma” can be on any party’s US presidential election ticket. The story of Barack “O’Brahma” is destined to be one of the Great American Bullsh*t stories but until it’s historical fact and taught in American and World History classes, this clown is going to thoroughly enjoy his “sacred cow” status among the afflicted.

Barack Obama will take his rightful place in history alongside Michael Jackson - under the category of inevitable laughing stock.

I wish Obama had visited the beaches of Normandy on his Magical Mystery Tour - he has missed what most of us know as historical record - where real truth lies in our ties to Europe ... so bound up in his own world he is.

I wonder if he even knows where Normandy is.

He is as shallow as a saucer and I am sick of this hype.

I don’t care of everyone hates McCain - there is no comparison and your hate doesn’t come close to the horror this fake creature will bring to our nation.

Every time I read “I hate McCain” I see another vote for Obama getting confirmed... a more confident Obama rising out of the stench.

The schlickmeisters at Der Weinerschnitzel love the new fuhrer. Nobama should have held his rally in a beer hall and half the purse-carrying scribblers there would have swooned. What else can we expect from the philosophical heirs of Goebbel’s Ministry of Propaganda and Enlightenment?

“President Obama”. I’m sure the Euroweenies will snicker if America is duped into electing this poser; having succeeded in knocking this country down a few notches. Of course, when trouble calls, and it will, there will be no one there to save Europe this time.
