Adventurer Steve Fossett 'may have faked his own death' Round-the-world flying adventurer Steve Fossett may have faked his own death, investigators have claimed. By Chris Irvine Last Updated: 12:22PM BST 27 Jul 2008 Fossett, a friend of Virgin boss Richard Branson, and the first man to fly non-stop round the earth in a hot air balloon, went missing last September when his final flight in a light plane over the Nevada desert went missing. However, Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol has said Fossett, whose body or plane was never found, could still be alive. She said: "I've been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found. "It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."

Which will be found first, Osama or Fossett?

Fossett. I don't know that anybody has the time or the earth-moving capability to move the rubble of a mountain range at Tora Bora to try to figure out which set of old remains are Osama's.

What reason would he have to do so?

Eliminate unsecured debt and gain $50,000,000.

"It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."

Uhh, if you're so good, why were you just now finding those "six other planes"?

And, we do not need this "theory"; we already have Elvis to keep us occupied.

C'mon, it's so obvious what happened to Fossett.
This is just another government cover up to hide the truth ...

Huh... how does she survive from a two mile fall in her plane seat? The Big Guy upstairs must have had a hand in it...

Remember a few years back when that A-10 disappeared in New Mexico/Arizona?

For a while, everyone was concerned that the pilot might have flown off with the plane for a suicide mission or to sell it to a foreign nation. A few months later, they found a small piece of the aircraft on the side of a mountain and discovered that the plane had impacted on the mountain, triggering a rock slide that completely covered the wreckage.

You have his phone number? Just don't go out and write any unauthorized bibliographies :)

Perhaps he wanted his wife to think he was dead and not just leaving her voluntarily.

OK, so suppose he faked it. Tell me where the airplane is...

Land on a playa; dismantle plane & load into trailer; shoot & bury the 10 or 12 hired help; hide trailer in abandoned barn in the boonies; drive off into the sunset; take up safe life disguised as an illegal alien in a sanctuary city by the bay?

I'm D.B. Cooper and Steve is not living with me... Check with Elvis...

How can you be D.D.Cooper when I'm D.B. Cooper?

Obviously not that good.

Where in the article does it state that these 6 other planes are ones that they conducted searches for?? These other planes could have gone down 50 or 60 years ago!
