Adventurer Steve Fossett 'may have faked his own death' Round-the-world flying adventurer Steve Fossett may have faked his own death, investigators have claimed. By Chris Irvine Last Updated: 12:22PM BST 27 Jul 2008 Fossett, a friend of Virgin boss Richard Branson, and the first man to fly non-stop round the earth in a hot air balloon, went missing last September when his final flight in a light plane over the Nevada desert went missing. However, Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol has said Fossett, whose body or plane was never found, could still be alive. She said: "I've been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found. "It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."

I think it’s ridiculous to believe.
The first thing I wondered was whether Fossett had faked his own death.
Of course, Amelia Earhart and her plane have never been found, either.
The financial records would give the definitive answer.
Did he move assets around in his last days?
Did you know him personally? If not, you have no idea what “TYPE” he was/is.
What reason would he have to do so?
He says Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol got it all wrong and that he really is dead....and he can prove it.

I would think finding a plane in water and finding a plane on land would be terribly different things.
Soooo, I gather that when the other six planes went down they were "not so good?"

If they found six other planes while looking for Fossett wouldn’t that imply that maybe they aren’t so good at search and rescue? When did those planes crash and how long were they missing? Why didn’t they find those six planes sooner?
Hmmm...this raises a question. How good were they at "what they do" when they were looking for less-famous pilots of lost aircraft?

Some of those panes they found in that rough terrain dated back almost 30 or more years.
I think he is going so up on the news after Obama “raises him” from the dead. ;)
Looks to me like he had everything to live for and had it all.
I am a little quirky, but I have wondered about this all along. The guy did like to live in the lime-light. I always thought the whole thing seemed a little staged. But once again, I do tend to be quick to come up with conspiracy theories.
