Obama, McCain accuse each other of shifting on Iraq (CNN's new idea of political fairness)

CNN) -- With just 100 days until the election, Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama are accusing each other of shifting their positions when it comes to Iraq.

Obama accused McCain of altering his stance after the senator from Arizona said 16 months would be a "pretty good timetable" for troop withdrawal, and McCain said Obama was becoming more inline with his position -- a "conditions-based" plan for withdrawal.

In an interview with Newsweek, Obama was asked about what sort of U.S. troop presence he would keep in Iraq, now that he has talked with diplomatic and military leaders there.

Obama returned to the United States on Saturday after spending more than a week in the Middle East and Europe. Watch Obama talk about his trip abroad »

"I do think that's entirely conditions-based. It's hard to anticipate where we may be six months from now, or a year from now, or a year and a half from now," he said in the interview, which was published on Saturday.

Obama, also said he had been to 57 states. He wasn’t going to wear a flag pin, now he is. He doesn’t give his daughters birthday or Christmas gifts. How can anyone believe anything he says is beyond me!

So, Obama, who refuses to admit the obvious, that the surge in Iraq which he opposed and which he said would make conditions worse, and which in fact has for all intent and purposes led to absolute victory in Iraq...now accuses Mccain, who has been steadfast on this winning issue from the beginning, long before it was popular...Obama is accusing McCain of waffling?

This guy is unbelievable. To the point of three stooges land and it being laughable if it wasn;t so deadly serious.

But it is deadly serious and Hussein, by every speech, by every childishly stubborn refusal to admit the obvious, is showing more and more how abjectly unfit to serve he is.

It's Obama flipping. All McCain said was 16 months was a good time table if conditions warrant. It wasn't an endorsement of Obama’s so-called plan because he could have easily said that 100 years is a good time table if conditions warrant.

It's not just Obama accusing McCain of waffling, it's also the MSM because they are not about to let the Messiah's own words be his downfall.

From the speech in 2007....see link just above....

****************************EXCERPT*************************

The first step must be getting off the wrong battlefield in Iraq, and taking the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I introduced a plan in January that would have already started bringing our troops out of Iraq, with a goal of removing all combat brigades by March 31, 2008. If the President continues to veto this plan, then ending this war will be my first priority when I take office.

All McCain said was 16 months was a good time table if conditions warrant.

That's all Prime Minister Maliki said, too, but the media slobbered all over it and trumped it as if he were "endorsing Obama's plan," which he certainly was not.

Obama's so full of zrabbat biha.

This clown is doing a great job of burying his chances of becoming a real leader. He shows his true level of basic understanding on geopolitical issues to be nill.

McCain has not shifted.

I may sign out soon and hit the rack. Or get serious about studying all the various aspects of the GLORIA Panel Discussion document you provided yesterday. Just so many facets of what makes up Iraq from a political and social standpoint.
Sometimes it is so easy to fall into the trap of thinking one knows what may really go down.

Regarding Iraq, the only options for the Obama campaign are to admit he was wrong or to distort the record and deceive the public.

No matter how much he twists things around, Obama can’t get away from the fact that as long as he refuses to admit he was wrong he must to some extent downplay the sacrifices of our troops in this Iraq victory.
