Honestly, I don’t think a lot of people are really aware of the beliefs held by UU’s.

The closest definition I can offer is modern Unitarians believe in spiritual humanism. Unitarians do not offer concrete ideas of their beliefs so no one, not even Unitarians, know their beliefs. It's a club for socialists. For the admirers of the Founding Fathers, you should know that both the Adams presidents are interred in a Unitarian church in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Boy, are you ever funny

Is heaven better than life on earth? Or are you a hypocrite that clings to this imperfect world rather than embracing God?

More likely he was an idiot in addition to being a homicidal bigot.

Jim D. Adkisson, 58, has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, which killed one and injured eight others.

I wonder what kind of weapon he used? He's up against a building full of unarmed people, and kills one and injures eight? He is either a lousy shot or he was using something slightly more powerful than a BB gun.

Issues with Christianity? Well, then, he went to the wrong church!

“No one deserved to die in that church as they freely worshipped,”

They were watching a play. I really don’t know who or what they would worship. So maybe it should be, “No one deserved to die in that Unitarian community building as they freely gathered,”

How about this: “No one deserved to die in that Unitarian community building as they watch ‘Annie.’”

From the article at: http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/human-shield-saved-us/2008/07/28/1217097089356.html

...The man slain was identified as Greg McKendry, 60, a longtime church member and usher. Church member Barbara Kemper told The Associated Press that McKendry "stood in the front of the gunman and took the blast to protect the rest of us"...

well, the Dhummies may have a point.

here in Nashville, the Unitarian church in Green Hills is Carpet on the Menu central

and not the Portia de Rossi/Tia Tequila variety....more the "I do my toenails with a belt sander" type

I wonder what kind of weapon he used?>>>>>>>>>>>>

Word is he used a sawed off pump scatter gun. The wounds were full of pellets. Size of Shot unknown.

He was taken down as he was reloading, so he got off 5 or 6 rounds.

After shooting the usher at point blank range ( DOA), he swung onto the crowd and the wounds were pellet wounds. One woman died later, she must have been too close.

I don't thing he used Double 00 Buckshot, or there would have been a lot more dead. I am only guessing but it sounds like BB shot or maybe a little bigger.

Who knows, he was a nut case, he might have used bird shot, or a variety of shot in his shells.

It seems there is something to be said for being a rude obnoxious jerk. You aren’t going to go on a killing spree.

Obviously they deserved since they weren’t in a church that bears your seal of approval. I have to concentrate sometimes to remember that FReepers as a whole are better than the jerks and sanctimonious fools such as yourself.

There can be nobility among those who otherwise do not stand for God:

***who had issues with Christianity***

And he attacked a UU facility?!?

Ironic, isn’t it. Almost as if the chickens have come home to roost.

It was close by?

No, not close by and not a particularly easy place to get to. One might guess that he wanted to shoot up a church, but not hurt his neighbors. No association with the church or anyone in it has been determined.

Huh, seems like those Unitarians were acting more like decent Christians than some of the Christians that we have replying to this thread.

Seriously folks, we’re discussing a tragedy here; a tragedy that was finally settled by some brave and selfless individuals. We’re discussing the injured and the dead, so try to show some basic class or tact... because as it is some of you folks are behaving like spoiled liberals.

If you can’t talk about a murder victim without insulting his faith or calling him a leftist turd, then just shut the hell up.
