I think Mickey Kaus is correct about this. Under normal circumstances, John Edwards would have a prominent role in the Democratic convention in Denver — remember the adoring, break-into-the-news coverage of Edwards' decision to endorse Obama? But these are not normal circumstances for Edwards. I think most people in the media believe the National Enquirer story about him is accurate, even as they have adopted a this-is-not-happening editorial policy. But the policy would be harder to maintain were Edwards to take a high-profile role at the convention.
It is impossible to imagine that the Obama campaign would want Edwards to appear from the podium with everyone whispering "mistress-love-child" as he spoke. So it would be better to just get it over with and have some pro-Democratic journalist at a big-media outlet recognize that the story exists. Perhaps it could be done in the context of an aggressive-tabloids-bedevil-public-figures thumbsucker or some other story designed to give the scandal a soft landing. But get it out there, so there won't be some strange thing-that-cannot-be-spoken mystery if he doesn't show up at the Democratic convention.
What a pity we won’t get another finger point lecture from our favorite well coiffed trial lawyer about how we should be more responsible to “duh poor” - notably those abandoned women with love chiddrens.

I know I’m guilty of schadenfreude for saying this - but it couldn’t have happened to anyone better than that phony, shyster trial lawyer who addresses the public as though we’re as dumb and pliable as one of his juries. Remember his maudlin press conference with his ill wife Elizabeth? Now maybe she and his whore and bastard can all appear together while he preaches to us about “two moralities” as well as “two Americas.”
There’s no way there were several N.ENQ. reporters stalking Edwards without cameras. IMO, this story isn’t going away and will climax at convention time with photo spreads splashed through the media.

I agree. That tabloid likes to focus on scandals but it’s also broken many stories that are true and have really shaken up the establishment. I can assure you that with a figure as prominent as Edwards they’ve really done their homework.

This is not fair. I think Silky Pony should have a role at the convention equal to his participation in the primaries. I think he and his family have earned the right to the spot light...his entire family.
Edwards has not specifically denied the allegations. All he said was the “NE prints lies”.
As a lawyer, he knows doublespeak and parsing almost as well as Clinton.
