McCain needs Rove, says 'Ferris Bueller' actor (I hate CNN)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Ben Stein says he knows how Sen. John McCain can win in November: Karl Rove. Ben Stein tells CNN's Mark Preston that John McCain is running the "most pathetic campaign" he's ever seen. That's right, that Karl Rove. At a time when McCain is seeking to distance himself from President Bush, Stein argues McCain needs to enlist Bush's chief political guru in order to defeat Sen. Barack Obama. "I don't discount the possibility that some really smart person at the McCain campaign might go over to Karl Rove, and say 'We will offer you all the kingdoms of the world if you will come and guide our campaign,' " a hopeful-sounding Stein said in a recent interview, during which he also discussed Al Franken's Senate bid and his thoughts on a sequel to the 1986 box office smash "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," which launched Stein's film career. Stein is not unlike many Hollywood types in that he speaks his mind when it comes to politics. But what separates him from the pack is his professional background and party affiliation. Stein is an actor and an author, but he is also an economist, columnist and, yes, a lawyer. And he is a Republican, making him a minority in Tinseltown political circles. Watch Ben Stein's take on politics » Did I mention that Stein also worked as a speech writer for President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford? Yes, that's right, that Richard Nixon. So when he talks about politics, it is fair to say that Stein has an informed view -- whether you choose to agree with his analysis is another issue. From Stein's perspective, McCain has been running an uninspiring campaign -- one that lacks a coherent message.

Ferris Bueller actor? If they’d say Ben Stein, more people will understand what this is about. Ben Stein BTW rules. While McCain’s campaign until recently indeed was rather lame, it has gained steam during the recent two weeks. The new ads and recent statements from the campaign are heartening. They have to stay on the offensive against Obama.

Johnny Mac needs some help - no doubt about it. If not Rove, maybe he can channel up Lee Atwater.

“One that lacks a coherent message”

I want to plunge a sword into someone. When compared Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama al-Chicago’s stance on NOTHING how can anyone start in on McCain as incoherent?

This mindless muck makes me want to drive a semi through the office.

McCain was rejected as a suitable candidate in 2000. Since 2000, his actions and positions have not improved his bonafides.

Stein’s role in “Ferris Bueller” lasted less than a minute, his role in the conservative movement goes back decades.

In Hussein's case, "the medium is the message," so to speak. The message is a young more-or-less black guy who comes across well on TV. He's running against an old white guy who was in some war that my parents used to talk about when they were smoking weed after dinner.

Your post is jaw-droppingly frightening - Because it’s so closely mirrored to things I have heard and read in real life.

Thank you for scaring the bejeezus out of me.

If McCain listens only to his inner voice and takes advice from no one, what good would Rove do?

“NOTED ECONOMIST” Ben Stein?

...and law-school professor.

McCain either needs to do something smart, or Obama needs to do something dumb. Fast.

Why not? Fresh off his sterling performance in 2006...</sarcasm>

All we need to know about Ben Stein is that he donated to that thug Al Franken.

I know. What film career? Unless you count a game show on Comedy Central and a cameo on MacGyver, what else was there? LOL. The writer should at least TRY to be accurate. Damn.

McCain is fortunate that this election is a referendum on B. Hussein Obama and not on him.

From Stein's perspective, McCain has been running an uninspiring campaign -- one that lacks a coherent message.

That isn't just Stein's perspective, IMHO McCain's so-called "campaign" is the most pathetic attempt since Bob Dole's misbegotten fiasco in '96. The GOP started out this campaign season's fiasco by nominating a RINO loser, and it's gone downhill ever since.

I am already shuddering mentally as I envision the next four years with Obamination sitting behind the Oval Office desk busily signing a Democrat Congress's tax hike bills, open border bills, and gun bans into law and choosing which left wing ACLU lawyer to appoint to the USSC next while our underfunded military disintegrates and muzzy terrorists run amok all around the globe with his blessings.

God help us, because we obviously don't have sense enough to help ourselves.
