“Effect” is a noun. “Affect” is a verb.

Lovely post!

On a serious (series?) note: We are embarking on a new world language that is based in English, but will be modified through texting, etc.

We may be the last generation to talk in full English.

Paula is a girl person.

I am not too happy with girl persons right now. I was in the grocery a while ago. A little old lady was in front of what I needed to get. I politely and patiently waited for her to make her selection. While I was waiting, she ripped a fart that would have done Caligula proud. I was shocked. I didn't know what to do. I kinda stepped back a bit and pretended I didn't notice.

Then I turned around and everyone on the aisle was looking at ME with real sour expressions. I slunk off around the corner and decided I didn't need no coffee filters. From then on everywhere I went people were looking at me and pointing.

I swear I didn't do it.

I ain't too happy with girl type people right now.

Pssst...you misspelled grammer.

That begs the question, how come a retired English teacher would misspell? Maybe you should of put it in lame man’s terms?

:D

Interesting definition of “affect”: to produce an effect upon.

I think you’re right. I learned from my Alabama relatives that the simple “y’all” means one person. To address a bunch of people, it probably should be “y’all’s.”

You were right in your first post. Take it from this Alabamian, “y’all” is plural.

“Effect” is a noun. “Affect” is a verb.

More often than not, but not always. "Effect" as a verb means causation, where as "affect" as a verb means qualitative change rather than full causation. "Affect" as a noun is associated with psychology, as in "emotional affect." So, it is grammatically correct to "effect an affect," although it is less common than to "affect an effect."
