If you look at history, it really wasn't all that different. Just remember that syphilis used to be an often fatal untreatable illness and much the "hygiene" films were centered around preventing the spread of syphilis. Sex positive proponents oppose abstinence NOT because “it doesn’t work” but because they find it to be an unhealthy supression of sexual desires.
