I was typing quickly on a tiny touch screen.

Sorry.

Yeah, you do. I remember the SF quake and all those people in the freeway collapse. This was a nasty quake. I’ve lived through all of them since 1957. I’d compare it to the Northridge quake with a lot of shaking and not as much rolling. Shaking is worse. The Sylmar quake, I was on the second floor of an apt in Chatsworth. Nearly rolled out the balcony! But that was a roller-no pun intended. This was a shaker. First time I ever actually left the house during the quake. Northridge I couldn’t. My dresser danced across the room and fell on my legs. I was mantling my daughter at the time. I’d rather this than a tornado/hurricane. No thanks.

Aw, it was a measley 5.something; if you'd been on the can after a burrito, you could have mistaken it for that aftermath. ;') Glad you're okay.

...On the Richter Scale, magnitude is expressed in whole numbers and decimal fractions. For example, a magnitude 5.3 might be computed for a moderate earthquake, and a strong earthquake might be rated as magnitude 6.3. Because of the logarithmic basis of the scale, each whole number increase in magnitude represents a tenfold increase in measured amplitude; as an estimate of energy, each whole number step in the magnitude scale corresponds to the release of about 31 times more energy than the amount associated with the preceding whole number value.

It may well be, but it’s not part of our corporation anymore. That last quake pretty much did it for the big shots, so they sold the place off to another Catholic group.

Fun YouTube video of Judge Judy taping and Big Brother house during eq. Pretty much proves people never do the right thing during an earthquake. They either just stare at the ceiling or run.

While riding in on the train this morning I talked with several people who worked downtown (one on the 39th floor who said she had quite a ride!) and one of the interesting stories I was told was that when the earthquake hit, they looked down from their windows and could see the pools which are on top of some of the less-tall high-rises being emptied out and falling onto the streets below. That’s something you don’t think about—being hit by a wave of water as you’re walking down the sidewalk.

When I went through Loma Prieta I saw the same thing with my own pool. The water went UP (since it couldn’t go sideways) and drenched the second story roof before it then went out the entry walkway in the form of a four foot wave of water hitting the sidewalk and street.

Yeah, that explains it! I looked on the satellite map and our house, where I was working in my home office, is 3/4 of a mile from the X-Marks-the-Spot epicenter, in an area where I have often walked (beautiful hills there), and been maybe 500 yards from the epicenter.

The quake whacked our house but good and scared the hell out of me and the cat, but other than that, I didn't even feel any aftershocks, though I may have been ignoring them. I had a lot to do, a busy work schedule. No time for aftershocks!!! Though the phone rang off the hook from friends and family calling to see if we were okay, which didn't help! House sustained zero damage that we can see, and very few things even fell off the shelves. The folks five or six miles away got hit MUCH harder than we did. So I guess it's better to be sitting on top of the epicenter instead of miles away.

I lived in Northridge during the Northridge quake. So I am comparing yesterday’s event (as a continued Northridge resident) directly to it. I am sure it was much worse if you were near yesterday’s epicenter.
Take care, 4L

Well, we’re officially past the 24-hour mark. Odds go to 1% that yesterday was a precursor to something bigger (according to the Cal GS eggheads...)

<< BUSH !!!>>

Earthquakes and your above added to the picture blaming him struck a chord.

Years ago I wrote a letter to the editor section of our blatantly liberal small town newspaper about the Lefties penchant blaming Prez Bush for everthing.

I suggested why not change the name of the San Andreas Fault to Bush's Fault.

Footage of the Family Court show was better. The judge on that show jumped under a desk, then the litigants (if you can call them that) followed suit.

There’s an oogey feeling left over about this quake and I’m not sure why.

Our Oregon news reporting over 90 aftershocks down there.

Are they felt ones?

Here is a anti earthquake no more from the Cascadia/Juan Del Fuca zone.

Ping No Bumps, rolls or jolts Los Angelos.

I saw an interview yesterday with Judge Judy and they are now going to practice what to do in case of another eq. :) I say that’s a good idea.

Somehow as a little girl the San Fernando quake traumatized me and I never got over it. I never stopped under overpasses, I always had months of food/water in the cupboard with some in the car along with tennis shoes for walking, I always looked for exits when I entered malls, building or movies etc. I always had clothes and shoes and flashlight by the bed as well as my purse and car keys. Most importantly we had a family plan in case something occurred while we were separated.

I can say with 100% certainty that no one could pay me enough to work downtown in any of those tall buildings.

I’m in Texas now and have finally gotten used to the earth never moving. :D

That reaction is not a phobia, it is called learning and wisdom.
