WASHINGTON - The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.

"Today represents a milestone in our nation's efforts to remedy the ills of our past," said Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

The resolution, passed by voice vote, was the work of Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen, the only white lawmaker to represent a majority black district. Cohen faces a formidable black challenger in a primary face-off next week.

If conservatives ran the world, Congress would apologize for passing and the states would apologize for ratifying the 16th Amendment.

Here it comes. This is just a warmup for a move for reparations for former slaves. More money from the public coffers to give to dem voters.

Why’d they do that? Jim Crow laws weren’t Federal laws. They were local ones. So the House apologized for something it didn’t do!

"Today represents a milestone in our nation's efforts to remedy the ills of our past," said Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich.,

Cheeks should take those ills closer to home and put them in the present. She's trying to take the spotlight off her thuggish, crooked, adulterous, disgusting, and lying son, Kwame, the soon-to-be-former Mayor of Detroit and future convict.

what’s next?

I'm sure whatever is next will involve a "tax on the rich" or quite possibly somebody "paying their fair share" that supposedly isn't.

The resolution, passed by voice vote...so no roll call.

I guess I don’t understand this.

If Jim does something bad, I can’t apologize for Jim.
Because I’m not Jim.

There’s only one party still in existence responsible for perpetuating slavery and implementing Jim Crow. One guess as to which one that is.

I wish some Republican with stones would make a speech about how there will be no apology for slavery and Jim Crow until the Democrats officially acknowledge, apologize and pay reparations out of their own party coffers for their LEADING ROLE in maintaining and defending the institution of slavery, for birthing the KKK, for enacting and enforcing all of the Jim Crow legislation, and for opposing civil rights legislation throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Oh, let's not forget the Copperhead Democrats who pressed Lincoln to end the fighting and negotiate an immediate peace with the Confederates.

Oh yeah, and while they're at it, also condemning the outrageous TV appearance of the still-sitting senior Democrat senator Robert Byrd, who not only filibustered AGAINST the civil rights act of 1964 in the Senate, and was an officer in the KKK, but who dared to go on national TV (in the 21st century, yet) to demonstrate his evolved racial understanding by graciously conceding that you don't have to be black to be a "nigger."

I recently made these points to a Democrat of my acquaintance, who responded with the standard "yeah but the Democrats have changed" -- as if America as a whole hasn't.

For real. I’m sick to death of it. How can Congress possibly be falling all over itself apologising for for slavery? The whole thing is stupid in the first place. Slavery was a fact of life in mankind’s history for millenia, only one group has made a damn cause out of it, thanks to stupid white liberals always assing around with empty symbolism instead of dealing with the substance of real and present problems. At any rate, they don’t speak for me.

That is one of the best posts I have read in a long time on any forum. You and everyone should send that to every Congresscritter. Kudos.

"Slavery was a fact of life in mankind’s history for millenia...".

And still is the Sudan and a few other countries. It just boggles the mind that Sharpton, Jackson, Farrahcon, and others STILL haven't spoken out about such atrocities.

I believe by golly you have hit the nail on the head identifying this as a first step to redistribute Americas wealth through reparations.

It looks like the Dimocrats in their effort to placate and pander to blacks have decided to play the old divide and conquer game.

Whats next, apologize to illegals because General Black Jack Pershing chased great grandpa Pancho Tony Villa-grossa for killing Americans in Colombus New Mexico.

Lets see, just how much money can the Dimocrats give in reparations for past sins and not hurt their kickbacks from the rich large carbon footprint Environ-mental liberals?

It is very depressing as the great Uniter is driving a wedge between white and blacks and between blacks and Hispanics.

Better stock up on plenty of KY Jelly cause conservatives are going to get a hell of a screwing, sooner not later.
