Activist Calls for Better Nutrition, Food Security in Treating HIV/AIDS (Duh!)
VOA News ^ | July 30, 2008 | Cole Mallard

AIDS experts say treating HIV/AIDS effectively requires more than medications such as anti-retroviral drugs; it requires good nutrition, food security and sustainable livelihoods. This is one of the topics to be discussed at the 17th International AIDS conference in Mexico City.

Stephen Lewis, the former UN special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, is now co-director of AIDS Free World, an international organization that promotes timely, effective global responses in the fight against HIV/AIDS. From Toronto, Canada, he told Voice of America reporter Cole Mallard that without good nutrition it’s not possible for a person with HIV to handle the effects of anti-retroviral drugs and enhance their performance.

He says food security is an issue because “Africa is desperately short of food, the world doesn’t have the food to deliver, and the ability to produce enough food is increasingly limited.” He adds that most Africans earn their living through agriculture, and if one’s income is threatened by sickness, drought or famine, “then you’re in terrible difficulty; you simply cannot survive.”

If you would like to be added to the RETHINKING AIDS PING LIST drop me a FReepmail.

AIDS is the biggest public health scam in medical history. Like global warming, AIDS is being used to push a powerful leftist political agenda. For over two decades the Public Health Establishment has used your tax dollars and the full power of the federal government to wage a massive propaganda (and intimidation) campaign designed to (A) dupe the American public into believing that HIV is the cause of AIDS (B) scare the public into thinking "we are all at risk" (C) coverup the extreme toxicity of AIDS chemotherapy drugs (which are not just used on "fast-track" gays and junkies, but also given to pregnant mothers, infants, and children) (D) use this fear to push a leftist social agenda that includes socialized medicine, and the promotion of homosexuality and explicit sex "education" to tender-aged school children (E) use their "public health mandate" to bypass the authority of parents and local school boards who object to their social engineering schemes (F) create a massive federal bureaucracy encouraging the use of addictive drugs, to include prescription heroine (G) use threats and intimidation to silence dissenting scientists and to keep the press from covering the debate (H) and finally, to use AIDS as a model to push similar social agendas with respect to future epidemics.

Every single point above can be documented on my profile page.

In 2000, the American Spectator published an article entitled Inventing an Epidemic. The article details how the traditional diseases of Africa (historically linked to malnutrition, bad water, and poor sanitation) are being relabled AIDS by western public health authorities, thus bringing them under the AIDS umbrella and artificially boosting African AIDS statistics.

And here I was thinking that it was lack of funding that caused AIDS. So send Africa some Domino's takeout and tell them to shut up.

Exactly. As Duesberg used to quip, if we just opened a chain of Burger Kings across the poor countries of Africa, we would solve African AIDS virtually overnight!

I first heard Duesberg talking on this subject many years ago, and I can't help but thinking that, bright as Duesberg is, it really shouldn't require someone of his credentials to realize that malnutrition, particularly protein malnutrition, is a big factor in causing disease.

Unfortunately, Duesberg and many other scientists and MDs have been harping on this for decades. The AIDS establishment is only just getting around to acknowledging what should be the obvious.

Sadly, though, I think they'll never acknowledge the true solution to AIDS (or whatever it is) in Africa, which is a healthy dose of capitalism, free markets, and the rule of law.

Better nutrition to help with immune deficiency? Who would have thought?

Certainly not the AIDS establishment. They have been a one-trick pony up until now. For the last two decades they have ignored Duesberg et al who have ALWAYS maintained African AIDS can be solved by simply feeding poor Africans. The AIDS establishment, on the other hand, ignored this advice and instead chose to push AIDS chemotherapy drugs (which kills them faster—duh!), sex education and condom distribution.
