Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A majority of Americans take a pro-life position opposing most or all abortions, but polls show one-third to one-half of pro-life people believe abortion should be okay in cases of rape and incest. A new book from a rape survivor shows the added horror abortion is that only compounds sexual abuse trauma.
In a gripping personal account of pain and redemption, author Nicole W. Cooley offers a candid look at her rape as a young military officer by a trusted friend.
She relates the devastating emotional consequences of her decision to abort the child conceived during the attack.
"I felt that the abortion was like being raped again," says Cooley. "Only this time, it was much worse because I had consented to the assault."
Cooley is the author of "Into the Light: Rape, Abortion and the Truth that Set Me Free" (Pleasant Word, 2007), which provides an intimate look at the trauma associated with abortion - even in the case of rape.
"At the time of my abortion I believed that I didn't have another choice. It's devastating to believe you have to choose between your life and the life of your child - and then live with the aftermath of that decision," she explains in a statement to LifeNews.com.
"Into the Light" is striking a chord with women who are victims of abuse and assault and one woman who has also experienced the pain of an abortion says women can relate to it.
"Every person who reads this book can connect with some part of Nicole's story and learn as she did about God's healing grace," says Georgette Forney of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. "I strongly recommend this book; it teaches us to have more compassion for one another and encourages us to face our traumas."
Cooley is now active in pro-life ministries and she was featured in the documentary "Choice of a Lifetime" produced by Focus on the Family in 2003.
Her work with crisis pregnancy centers has included post abortion counseling as well as abstinence education.
"The bottom line is that abortion hurts women," says Cooley. "I hope to give readers hope in the knowledge that just as God healed me, there is hope for them as well."
A former Captain in the United States Army, Cooley is now a military wife, homeschool mom and manager of an active Longaberger® basket business. Cooley and her family currently reside in Fort Irwin, California.

"I felt that the abortion was like being raped again," says Cooley. "Only this time, it was much worse because I had consented to the assault." Women need to understand that an innocent baby does not deserve to die for the crimes of its father.

I think it possible that if a raped woman chooses to have the rapists baby, then that means she wasn’t truly raped.
Because she will have agreed to cooperate with the genetic strategy behind rape: the reproduction of the male’s genes.

I don’t know what “genetic strategy” means, but the real reason for rape is control. Rape has nothing to do with sex. In fact, some rapists use objects (Jon Benet Ramsey).
My cousin was raped our freshman year of college. She was yelled at by the nurse at the hospital for refusing to take the morning after pill.

I see it a little differently. If a rape victim resists the urge to kill the baby (ie. abortion) and gives birth, she can find an adoptive home and try to bring some closure with life, not death. That could be an amazingly selfless and therapeutic response to something horrible that was exacted on her. It's an empowering option.
I also believe rape is an act of self-serving violence, not a strategy to procreate.

If it weren't about sex, there wouldn't be a baby.

You missed the posters point. You missed mine.

Again, rape is about control. Some rapists, and I am repeating myself here, use objects and not their penises. Some rapists will not ejaculate in the victim because they think the victim is dirty or tainted. In other words, they are punishing the woman for her actions. They are not trying to make a baby. Also, rapists have been known to use condoms. Still some others never even ejaculate. Obviously this can’t result in a baby. As to the comment “there wouldn’t be a baby”, I don’t even know how to respond to this comment. I suggest you do some research on the subject of rape.

Because she will have agreed to cooperate with the genetic strategy behind rape: the reproduction of the males genes.
No, she will have agreed to spare an innocent life for the crimes of his or her father.
I personally know a little girl who was the product of rape, I can assure that her mother DID NOT "agree" to the crime:

Please explain your point. Based on what I read, you think that rape is to procreate.

Because she will have agreed to cooperate with the genetic strategy behind rapeI finished reading your post and fail to understand the concept of genetic strategy behind rape.
Rape is about power even more than sexual gratification, I have never heard of rapist who rape simply to produce offspring, unless you are a participate in the ROP

I think it possible that if a raped woman chooses to have the rapists baby, then that means she wasnt truly raped. And if, in the course of the 'alleged' attack, she is injured to the point of being comatose throughout the entire gestation and labor, and then later comes out of the coma, she ought to stab the kid in the back of the head and vacuum his brains out, just to prove she wasn't raped.--/EXTREME OFFENSIVE SARC
