Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A majority of Americans take a pro-life position opposing most or all abortions, but polls show one-third to one-half of pro-life people believe abortion should be okay in cases of rape and incest. A new book from a rape survivor shows the added horror abortion is that only compounds sexual abuse trauma.
In a gripping personal account of pain and redemption, author Nicole W. Cooley offers a candid look at her rape as a young military officer by a trusted friend.
She relates the devastating emotional consequences of her decision to abort the child conceived during the attack.
"I felt that the abortion was like being raped again," says Cooley. "Only this time, it was much worse because I had consented to the assault."
Cooley is the author of "Into the Light: Rape, Abortion and the Truth that Set Me Free" (Pleasant Word, 2007), which provides an intimate look at the trauma associated with abortion - even in the case of rape.
"At the time of my abortion I believed that I didn't have another choice. It's devastating to believe you have to choose between your life and the life of your child - and then live with the aftermath of that decision," she explains in a statement to LifeNews.com.
"Into the Light" is striking a chord with women who are victims of abuse and assault and one woman who has also experienced the pain of an abortion says women can relate to it.
"Every person who reads this book can connect with some part of Nicole's story and learn as she did about God's healing grace," says Georgette Forney of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. "I strongly recommend this book; it teaches us to have more compassion for one another and encourages us to face our traumas."
Cooley is now active in pro-life ministries and she was featured in the documentary "Choice of a Lifetime" produced by Focus on the Family in 2003.
Her work with crisis pregnancy centers has included post abortion counseling as well as abstinence education.
"The bottom line is that abortion hurts women," says Cooley. "I hope to give readers hope in the knowledge that just as God healed me, there is hope for them as well."
A former Captain in the United States Army, Cooley is now a military wife, homeschool mom and manager of an active Longaberger® basket business. Cooley and her family currently reside in Fort Irwin, California.

Because she will have agreed to cooperate with the genetic strategy behind rape: the reproduction of the males genes. Oh, and the guys who murder their rape victims don't really rape them, since they aren't exercising the genetic strategy behind the rape: the reproduction of their genes.

If it weren't about sex, there wouldn't be a baby. When I was assigned to RAF Lakenheath, three local men gang raped a male, Air Force officer who had been jogging.
Please explain to me exactly how a baby factors in with this situation.

"I think it possible that if a raped woman chooses to have the rapists baby, then that means she wasnt truly raped.
Because she will have agreed to cooperate with the genetic strategy behind rape: the reproduction of the males genes." Rape is an act of violent dominance, most often. Trying to lipstick that pig with 'genetic strategy' is asinine. You completely miss the notion that the raped woman/female may not want to murder someone of absolute innocence as her response to the violence done to her. You might want to consider changing your handle at FR.

I have sat on Grand Jury cases involving rape victims. In those cases no child was involved thank God. The only thing I could think was how naive the victim (foreign tourist) was and how deserving the feral animal was for a 230gr. summary judgment. I have absolutely zero tolerance for creatures like this.

I’m afraid that the doctor told this woman to have an abortion.
The baby can always be adopted!
Lord, have mercy.

Refusing to kill a small child for another person’s crime is not even remotely connected to “cooperating” with the criminal.

Many rapists have taken to wearing condoms so there won’t be DNA evidence. No baby.

I know that at her request you removed xsmommy’s comment because she used a certain expletive (though this word is routinely used on TV and radio without consequence). However, I would like to point out that NO WORD is as offensive as Age of Reason’s suggestion and subsequent reaffirmation that if a rape victim becomes pregnant and has the child that she wasn’t really raped and the repugnant belief that she “cooperated” in the act.

If it weren't about sex, there wouldn't be a baby. So...using your standard, the following things aren't sex:
Any bedroom activity involving homosexuals
Oral sex
Any sex between a man and a woman who is past menopause or has had a hysterectomy
What say you about that, Mr. Clinton?

Banning this ninny would probably be a good idea, but perhaps his words should be left as a monument to human stupidity.

“”The bottom line is that abortion hurts women,” says Cooley.”
That is the key quote.
Abortion not only kills the child, but it is ALWAYS damaging to the woman as well.

Your screen name is very, very inaccurate. On the contrary - the "Age of Reason" is the rejection of absolute moral truth in favor of the "reason" of man to determine right and wrong. What you're seeing is the product of the "age of reason" - someone with a morally abhorrent view of a horrible situation.
The "Age of Reason" also brought us communism & fascism, with the resulting millions of deaths.

Precisely, look at the French Revolution to see what the “Age of Reason” brought about, France hasn’t been the same since.
