Tyson drops Labor Day holiday for Eid al-Fitr
Shelbyville Times-Gazette ^ | Friday, August 1, 2008 | Brian Mosely

Workers at Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the fall.

A recent press release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) stated that a new contract at the Shelbyville facility "implements a new holiday to accommodate the ... Muslim workers at the plant."

The RWDSU stated that "the five-year contract creates an additional paid holiday, Iidal Fitil, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan."

I retract my last post. I didn't get to the part where this was negotiated by the union.

Sorry, folks. I have criticized many for not reading the article before commenting. Mea culpa.

The Tyson spokesman was asked by one of the Nashville new stations if they had a prayer room set up for people of any other religions and he said no. But it’s because “no one has asked for one”.

Oh, please. If they'd have asked for one before, they would have been told, "Hell, no!"

What happens if a Christian brings a Bible into the room and prays to the Lord?

Muslims will exceed 50% of the world's population by the end of this century.

No, they won't.

Tucson actively tries to bring in Somali refugees. Tucson then spends a lot of money trying to teach them things like, “You cannot beat up a girl for disagreeing with you!”.

..What makes corporation executives think of these idiotic maneuvers? Can't they just concentrate on bringing us better chickens for less money?

It's apparently all about getting as much as they can for as little money as possible.
I doubt they pay the Somalians much, and this ploy may be just to "make the peasants happy".

It may just backfire in the long run, though.

The PR person’s inbox will probably be slam full by Monday. heh!

Based on the way things have been going, it won’t surprise me a bit if they decide not to close for Christmas or Easter.

It doesn’t make any sense at all.
But it’s quite true.

I’d say a boycott is getting well underway. Maybe this is the wake up call Americans need to start putting an end to this madness.
Then again, maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

Thank you. I was worried about flubbing up, and this issue is too important to have a lot of “You dummy!” comments taking up space. LOL!

I’ll add my thanks to yours, to all the contributors.

This is the USA not a muslem country.

That may not be true much longer if Americans don't wake up to the threat we face.

Insanity is definitely upon us.
I hope somebody does come along to take Tyson to the floor. It's gotta start somewhere and this looks like as good a place and time as any.

Let me get this straight. You want me to call the company and complain about them implementing the majority vote of the union members?
