My friends,
For far too long we have let the Democrats and liberals bully us around Washington. Even when we were the majority party, they still controlled the legislation because we were far too concerned about getting along. Folks, what we saw on Friday with those 50 House Republicans was an energy that hasnt been seen anywhere in the Republican Party in many, many years. There was passion, there was drive, and we need to let them know that we mean business with them on this issue.
The "All of the Above" bill is not just a piece of legislation; it is a national initiative to become energy independent, akin in its scope and importance to Kennedys challenge to land a person on the moon and bring him safely back to Earth. This is our generations great task, and we possess the drive, the resources, and the collective creativity to accomplish this goal while not restricting our way of life and while finding the clean, renewable resources we all want when and as they are developed.
We saw the first step in that process on Friday, and its time we show those Republicans that we are behind them to the end on this issue. I say we force the Democrats and the media to take notice of us.
Heres my plan. First, lets put some pressure on those Republicans to keep to their pledge to not recess until there is a vote. Call them, write them, contact them in any way, especially if you know them personally and have some private means of communication. Tell them that you support them. Tell them that you want them to keep fighting through August and that youll stand behind them all the way, and tell your friends and family to do the same. We need them to be leaders on this, but we need to know they are serious. If we get enough people to show their support, then theyll have to take notice and go back to the House on Monday to debate. Even if only one does so, then thats enough. More will come.
Then, lets truly show them our support. Lets fill up the House chamber each and every day there are Republicans giving speeches in the dark. I know most of us have jobs and cant afford to spend 5 weeks away from them, but what about one or two days? If we can spread the word about this sufficiently, then I fully believe we can find the 600 or so people needed to fill up the House chamber every single day on a rotating basis. Come to Washington, bring as many people as want to come with you, spend a day or two sitting in the House chamber with the Republicans, and then go back home and let someone else take your seat. Give this a couple days to get rolling, and Ill bet dollars to donuts that we can fill that place to capacity with more spilling onto the streets.
Rush, if youre reading this (or someone who knows how to send a message to him), this is where you can help in a big way. This is a moment when you can use your celebrity to spread the word about this, and you know that there is no one else in the talk radio world that can have an impact like you can. If its not too late to organize this, do a special weekend show to talk about this and that would be a big step toward getting the ball rolling. You already have time allotted with your stations through your weekend edition, and while the audience will be much smaller than youre used to, your listeners and the media will notice the fact that you did it and the message will spread. Even if you can just do one hour, that may be enough. Even if you can only do it through your website, that may be enough. You can be a focal point to energize the letter-writing campaign to get those congressmen back to work on Monday and to be a central forum for coordinating our side of the protest. On Monday, we can all spread the word to your entire audience and show that we mean business.
All we need is for one congressman to show up for work on Monday, and if we can get even 100 people to sit in the chamber with him, then that will be enough to gain some momentum and possibly turn this into a nation-wide effort over the following days and weeks. Look at how jazzed up everyone is after only five hours of Republican chutzpah. Even a small continuation of that momentum into Monday will have a HUGE impact on the momentum of this entire debate.
Folks, we can do this. (Yes we can. Yes we . . . nah, Im going in that direction. ;-) ) This is the one issue that touches people of all races, colors and creeds regardless of their previous political persuasion, and Im willing to bet that we can get a fair number of moderate Democrats and maybe some Democrat congressmen to join in our fight. This is our economic national security at stake, and this is an issue that we can use to push back against the liberalism that has been infecting our country for nearly 80 years and truly unite all Americans behind our cause.
If we are truly serious about this, then lets get to work. Right now, contact those Republicans, contact Rush, contact W, contact everybody. If anyone has a list of those Republicans who participated in yesterdays festivities, please post it so we know who to put the pressure on to go back to work on Monday.
Any other thoughts or ideas are greatly welcomed.
Take care and God Bless America.

I’m gunna have to bump this one.
I hope the republicans have the spine to keep this up.
I suggest we e-mail our own republican congressmen and ask who took part. If there is no response, it’s obvious that was someone who did not attended!
It seesm like many of the House Repubs have always been feisty. It’s some of the country clubbers in the Senate that I don’t like.
Is there a list of names of reps who are staying in DC?
IMO< far too few in Congress, and almost none in the Senate...
Welcome to FreeRepublic.
Well, I was hoping to see them stage a “sit in”....order pizza, make speeches all night, get a webcast going, create a REAL scene! Act like they’ve had enough and refuse to take less....give up their vacation and STAY in the HOUSE!
This is What Congressman Wittman has posted,
August 1, 2008: Congressman Wittman Calls for Special Energy Session
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman released the following statement calling for a special Energy Session of Congress during the five week August District Work Period.
“According to our adjournment resolution, the Speaker can reconvene if the public interest shall warrant it.’ I can’t think of any more important issue to the public today than relief from out of control energy prices. Why not call us back for a special Energy Session so that Congress can devote its undivided attention to energy? I’m sure members from both sides of the aisle would appreciate the opportunity to debate and vote on a meaningful, comprehensive energy policy,” says Wittman.
I emailed your (edited) post and told him i would come and cheer if he would let me know.
We need to put a serious lid on this “throw the bums out” attitude. Because if we throw out someone who is not a bum, but simply because we are throwing a temper tantrum, then we deserve all that’s coming.
Bump!
We ride at midnight!!!!!!!
Let’s encourage and call often. Keep the revolt moving!!!!!
Members participating in the spontaneous uprising included Reps. Roy Blunt, John Boehner, Kevin Brady, Paul Broun, Henry Brown, Michael Burgess, John Campbell, Eric Cantor, Shelly Moore Capito, John Carter, Tom Cole, Mike Conaway, John Culberson, Charlie Dent, Jeff Fortenberry, Virginia Foxx, Louie Gohmert, Pete Hoekstra, Duncan Hunter, Steve King, Dan Lungren, Don Manzullo, Thaddeus McCotter, Devin Nunes, Mike Pence, Tom Price, Ted Poe, Jon Porter, Adam Putnam, Mike Rogers (MI), Bill Sali, John Shadegg, John Shimkus, Adrian Smith, Mike Turner, Tim Walberg, Greg Walden, Wally Herger, and Lynn Westmoreland
They know how to stage a small uprising, but unfortunately, when they were in power, they didn’t know how to rule and get things done.
This deserves a bump. Sadly, my senators are the wonderful Boxer and DiFi, and my CongressPerson is searching for a 4th house to not be able to afford.
I was pretty impressed by the energy as well.
However. Once burned twice shy.
Bump for later...trying to prepare dinner.
Note to self: Less lurking...more cooking..........
