Disease was an enemy, from the Enemy, and not sent by God.

Who created the Enemy?

You're right, disease and death are our enemies and God's enemies, and does not represent His direct and active will. God did not create death, and it is the final enemy He will conquer.

However, I think the point is that He permits such things because He can use ALL things to accomplish the good, if we continue in faith and trust.

St. Julian of Norwich, who lived through the Black Death plague years in England (1348-50) believed that at the End of Time, Satan would be compelled to see and admit that, despite all of his efforts to drive us to despair, "All things" had indeed "worked together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

James 1:13-15

When tempted, no one should say,
"God is tempting me."
For God cannot be tempted by evil,
nor does he tempt anyone;
but each one is tempted when,
by his own evil desire,
he is dragged away and enticed.
Then, after desire has conceived,
it gives birth to sin;
and sin,
when it is full-grown,
gives birth to death.

I didn’t ask about temptation.

I thought it so beautiful and inspiring that I wanted to send it on. So many times, though, lovely things like this are dubbed as “not true” at Snopes et al, so I decided to run it down to its source.

What a wonderful, glowing testimony of what Christ can do in a submitted temple, one of His very own. So often we fight against the things that happen to us instead of surrendering them to Him and allowing Him to work in and through us to touch the world much in need of testimonies like Tony’s. May we all go out like Tony did, in the arms of Jesus who carried Him through it all.

OK. That was context. Read the second verse of the quote. That’s where death came from: from sin, which is the main project of the Enemy. (His three main projects: Lies, Sin, Death.)

And as for the Enemy? He was not created an enemy. He was created brilliant and enlightened (lux, lucis). He became the Enemy by turning against the Source of all good.

...God doesn't promise us tomorrow, he does promise us eternity...

That pretty much sums up how a true Christian faces he dying light.
