WTH are you two talking about? Someone takes your picture, you should be allowed to beat the crap out of them???

I think they should put equal numbers of them in a huge arena and let them fight it out amongst themselves.

Please re-read my post. That is the exact opposite of what I said.

If 'Tim' is a full time protester then 'Tim' should have a camera with a telephoto lens. Not a throw-away where you have to get in someone's face (nobody likes that).

It doesn't have to a fancy $800 digital with a $600 lens either. A manual 35mm SLR (like a Nikon FM10) with a 300mm zoom lens (Vivitar, Sigma or Tamron), and some 'fast' Film (high ASA no.) will keep him out of harms way - and cheaply.

Then he can document away and the subject wouldn't even know it.

there are a lot of pro-lifers out there who are prepared to murder abortionists whose photo and details appear on an anti-abortion website...

I don't agree with the vigilantism aspect of it either. I do, however, believe that they should be charged with the crime they are committing - premeditated murder and upon conviction executed by the government.

Maybe the saying "What goes around comes around" applies here.

Make that read “be executed by the government”.

“Nothing will happen. The pro-aborts will make sure he walks.”

I'm not pro abort but I'd probably walk him. I'm no fan of these zealots who hang around abortion clinics harassing people and trying to stir up trouble. This guy clearly didn't want to be photographed, but this punk goes on and does it anyway. In fact he waits around like a stalker to do it. That's just creepy. It's harassment. People who do stuff like that are begging for trouble. Abortion may be wrong, but it is legal. I'm sure these little trouble makers feel like heroes fighting the good fight, but I can't feel sorry for any of them if they get their butts kicked.

Trouble is already "stirred up" at the abortion mills - trouble for the baby, trouble for the mother, trouble for a nation which allows its unborn to be slaughtered.

I'm of the mind that if someone asks not to be photographed, you should abide by their wishes. Of course, if they photograph you anyway, that doesn't give you the right to beat them up.

For many years, celebrities of various kinds have had to deal with paparazzi taking their pictures without permission. It's the same deal. Whereas it is not polite to take pictures of people when they ask you not to, if they are on a public street you can take their picture

He was cited and released.

If you did that do you think you would be cited and released?

People get the most upset when they are photographed doing something they know is wrong.

The right to swing your fist ends WHERE?

Clearly you can't just hit someone because they took your picture. The law doesn't allow that. But, these people that hang around these abortion clinics harassing people are just looking for trouble. If one of them gets punched in the nose I'm not going to feel sorry for him, just like I wouldn't feel sorry for paparazzi or those creeps that protest at soldier's funerals if they get beat up. These people are asking for it. What do you think this guy was hanging around the abortion clinic taking pictures for? Was he trying to intimidate people, harass them? If so he got what he deserved.

I suggest they pick a new line of work if it bothers them to be photographed doing it.

I have had a few people take offense at me taking pictures too. The one that parallels this situation, I saw bubba coming and put down the camera. He took the first few swings in front of witnesses. Then I dropped him. That should have happened here as well.

What should have happened is that this guy who got hit shouldn't have been stalking people. Why do you harass people?

Taking pictures, even with a disposable does not make one a stalker. Its also not any semblance of justification to commit assault and battery, which is what the perp (the doc) did here. He had better hope for jury nullification, otherwise its jail time and loss of license, which is fine by me.

I am a serious photographer and every once in a while you run into a nut who thinks their desires trumps the rights of others, just like this perp (the doctor) did. It happens more often than you might think. Rent-a-cops, malcontents, and other stupid people who do not understand the law or the rights of all concerned. They get in your face and make illegal demands such as insisting you turn over your film. When you tell them no, a few of the rabid ones get really upset, and will get stupid. I don't take well to being assaulted and tend to solve the problem in real time. Nothing says cease and desist like a back fist to the jaw.

In the parallel situation I cited, the perp was very upset because I was taking pictures of an anti Shah/pro Khomeini demonstration (this was in the mid-late 70s). I told him that I would not give up my camera or film. He went after me and was dropped. Another photographer captured it clearly. It was months before he could eat solid food again. University I was working for/attending was a bit upset, but witnesses and the photographs clearly showed who was the aggressor. Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice...same goes for violence to protect ones person. Its certainly not harassment.

How do you justify inconvenience or embarrassment should override the rights of others to be safe in their persons?
