I think the thing to emphasize here is that this is a serious conversation going on among people who might have influential voices or play influential roles in an Obama administration. Many of them want to put John Yoo — a special favorite of theirs — on trial, whether before a Nuremberg-style tribunal, a criminal court, or a truth commission with as-yet unspecified powers. And, of course, they wouldn't stop with Yoo; if they had their way, they would likely have a long list of former Bush administration officials to put in the dock. They are serious.

There's something very Venezuelan about today's left in America. They have their claws so deeply into America, it may take 20 years of an American Pinochet to rid us of them. I'm not sure our republic has the ability to shake them off in its current form.

And it's long overdue, isn't it? 2000 years or so ago, Titus Livy, in his introduction to his monumental history of Rome remarked that his purpose in writing was "to trace the progress of our moral decline, to watch, first, the sinking of the foundations of morality as the old teaching was allowed to lapse, then the rapidly increasing disintegration, then the final collapse of the whole edifice, and the dark dawning of our modern day when we can neither endure our vices nor face the remedies needed to cure them."

Rome could do neither and fell. We're going to have to find the courage to face the remedies we need to rid ourselves of those who wish to destroy America. Soon.
