Erin Brockovich: Gardasil (the case against Merck's HPV vaccine)
The Brockovich Report ^ | August 6, 2008 | Erin Brockovich

Posted on 08/07/2008 7:13:47 AM PDT by weegee

We have been spending our days getting all our ducks armed for bear and in a row--all of our anti-Gardasil ducks, that is. From checking my various areas on the internet, to finding moderators to listening to the tragic and painful stories of victims of the Gardasil vaccine, it has been a very busy time for me and my team.

Gardasil, as you should know by now, is an HPV vaccine sold by Merc, a vaccine with a flawed marketing campaign targeting young girls. The premise is that the vaccine will protect young girls from cervical cancer, as well as a couple of varieties of HPV. But the vaccine is NOT a cancer preventative, and it has not been thoroughly tested. Not only does Gardasil not protect everyone, it does not prevent all types of cervical cancer. According to current science, there are fifteen types of HPV associated with cervical cancer but Gardasil only counters HPV types 16 and 18. The vaccine requires three doses to start and scientists don't even know how frequently boosters will be needed. They don't know because they did not adequately research this before putting the vaccine out on the market using our young girls as guinea pigs.

Merc was even pushing to have this untried vaccine REQUIRED by states. Governer Perry of Texas--who bypassed the state legislation with an executive order--has ties to Merck. Mike Toomey, Perry’s former chief of staff is one of the drug company’s three lobbyists in Texas. The governor also received $6,000 from Merck’s political action committee during his re-election campaign. "Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12." As a mother, should I have to sign a waver to protect my daughter from having a potentially dangerous vaccine forced on her?

What makes this vaccine so terrible? It's not just the fear that some parents have that administering a vaccine against stds to nine year olds will encourage sexual activity. The concern is based on much more concrete issues than that. 7195 of them, in fact.

The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) now has 7195 individual adverse reactions listed--and as it is a database not everyone knows about, not all of the adverse reactions are being reported. The Centers for Disease Control report over 9,000 adverse reactions for Gardasil. There is a rising total of deaths connected with the administration of this vaccine; as well as have been reports of seizure activity, tingling, numbness and loss of sensation in the fingers and limbs. There is serious question about girls initially having short-term health problems associated with getting this vaccine that could turn into long-term neurological or immune system disorders; and there is serious question about administering this vaccine at the same time as others.

Gardasil is a vaccine developed by Merck to prevent Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). HPV is known to cause cervical cancer. Although Merck has claimed that Gardasil has no significant side effects, reports filed with the FDA suggest otherwise.

The FDA Vaccine Adverse Effect Reporting System has more than 8,000 incidents associated with Gardasil. The most serious complications reported include death and the development of blood clots.

If you or a loved suffered a serious adverse event, such as death, disability or blood clot following the administration of Gardasil, please contact me erin@brockovich.com. I will have one of our staff of experienced attorneys review your claim to advise you about your rights.

Yeah, what would we do without people like Dickie Scruggs and Erin Julia Roberts selflessly, disinterestedly standing up to represent our rights against the evil capitalists. Why, she’s a regular Mother Teresa! Scam artist is right, whatever the merits of the complaint! If she’s credible, then why not her fellow lawyer John Edwards for President, then? (Yeah, I know, she’s just a law office secretary, typist, or something.)

We are told that everyone should get the vaccine “because if it saves one life it’ll be worth it”. Of course if taking it kills someone, well that’s just a small percent of the population...

I'm not sure I understand your point...

Both the Merck employees and the politicians who took the bribe money should be going to prison.

I’m not a good speller myself. Perhaps that does make me look stupid at times. To me it’s the thought or premise being presented that is the important thing. To others the thought or premise doesn’t matter if there’s a missing “k” in the article. And perhaps they’re right...

"The vast majority got them from long partners"

Well some are longer than others I guess, didn't know that had anything to do with spreading STD's though. :)

Well put.

The facts of the case, and the movie it was based off of, like it or not are about a corporation who knowingly poisoned innocent people and then tried to cover it up. That’s wrong, period.

Counter-point to the "facts" of the case: the alleged poisoning and the extent to which this company's chemical pollution caused actual harm was based on dubious science.

Merck’s ads state that they do not Gardasil does not treat cancer, and does not prevent all forms of HPV which cause cancer.

Their more recent ads include such disclaimers that are closer to this truth than their earlier ads, but they STILL refer to this vaccine as a vaccination against cervical cancer -- a blatantly false characterization.

No blood clots reported in either group according to the paper. Again, in an uncontrolled setting, the reports that Brockovich is talking about are next to worthless (the only time they are meaningful--and it does occasionally happen--is when reports of the same or similar side effects start coming in). Here's the table from the study:

And here's the whole study, free online.

"Are you up for airing Brockovich’s dirty laundry?"

Ed Masry, a convicted felon (San Diego County 1981) who patronized "cathouses" in Nevada, met Erin in the Reno area (not in LA, contrary to the film). (Question: Can you think of an occupation, that a woman like Erin might have held in that region)? Masry actually did most of the footwork on the PG&E case (again, contrary to the film account). The film's intent, was to portray a "kick ass" woman, according to Carla Shamberg.

Recipients of the PG&E settlement later complained that shares of the proceeds were apportioned not on the basis of the severity of the medical injuries, but on their ties to Ed Masry. Some settlement recipients, were solicited for representation and investments by Masry's son (who become their financial manager). After the settlement, Masry vacationed with the arbitrator in the case on a rented boat in the Mediterranean.

Despite the promises, not all of the vaccines have been safe. They talk about the experimental polio vaccine used between 1954 and 1963 which was contaminated with simian virus 40 (which can cause cancer). BUT there has been some suggestion the contaminated vaccine continued to be used from those in storage possibly through the 1980s. It would be worth looking at that in terms of the epidemic of weird autoimmune and neurological diseases as well as the cancers. More than a few kids seem to be a little brain-damaged these days....

http://www.thevirusandthevaccine.com

"The Virus and the Vaccine is the true story of a cancer-causing monkey virus, contaminated polio vaccine, and the millions of Americans exposed.

In the age of AIDS, SARS, Avian Flu, and Ebola, here is a real-life, riveting account of a carcinogenic monkey virus that contaminated America’s most revered vaccine and the cancers it is causing today.

Jonas Salk’s polio vaccine has taken on legendary quality as a medical miracle, for it largely eradicated one of the most feared diseases of the twentieth century. But the story of the vaccine has a dark side, one that has never been fully told before. In one of modern medicine’s biggest blunders, between 1954 and 1963, 98 million Americans received polio vaccinations widely contaminated with a carcinogenic monkey virus, known as simian virus 40, or SV40. A concerted government effort downplayed the incident, and it was generally accepted that although oncogenic to laboratory animals, SV40 was harmless to humans.

But now SV40 is showing up in a variety of human lung, brain, bone, and lymphatic cancers in adults. It is also appearing in the cancers of some children too young to have received the contaminated Salk vaccine. Is the simian virus spreading within the human population? Or, is it possible, as internal vaccine manufacturer documents appear to indicate, that the vaccine may have been contaminated with the monkey virus more recently as well?

...THE VIRUS AND THE VACCINE takes readers on a side-by-side journey with some of today’s most prominent cancer researchers as they explore exactly how SV40 causes cancer and what might be done to stop it. In the process, they must confront the errors of the revered scientists of the past, who, in their efforts to wipe out the scourge of polio, employed contaminated monkey kidneys to produce a vaccine. And they must overcome the political maneuvering of federal health bureaucrats who worry that publicizing the dangers of SV40 might lead to widespread fear of vaccines today. A gripping medical detective story, THE VIRUS AND THE VACCINE raises major questions about vaccine safety and regulation, cancer research funding, and the hidden dangers posed by viruses from another species."

Politicians with connections to Merck pushed through attempts to REQUIRE girls to take it.

Yes people with ties to Merck have apparently pushed to have their drug made mandatory.

They might be doing so because Merck could make considerable amounts of money, or because they believe in their product and that it could save many lives.

You can't really tell if the small $6000 campaign contribution has some effect, or if there were political favors involved.

However, it would seem that the most important factor in evaluating such claims, and even more importantly deciding if your own children should use the vaccine, would be the facts and figures that the author is intentionally distorting.

The article is full of accusations, but the only facts that can really be used to gauge the credibility of those accusations are purposefully distorted.

The author clearly considers winning support for their opinions far more important than presenting the truth so that people can make their own informed decisions.

The author claims to want parents to be able to make their own decision about the drug rather than having it mandated, but doesn't appear to want parents to make an informed decision on their own.

How many of them understand that they should be using codoms on their “toys” (which are illegal for minors to buy, by the way) and when giving oral?

Reminds me of Sue Ellen Mishke...

Receptionist on Intercom: Sue Ellen Mishke to see you.

Elaine: Sue Ellen Mishke? Ah, alright, send her in.

(Sue Ellen enters, wearing the brazier as a top, with a black blazer)

Sue Ellen: Hi Elaine.

Elaine: Hellllloo.

Sue Ellen: I happened to be in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd stop in, and thank you for your lovely gift.

Elaine: Ohhhhh. You're....welcome.

Sue Ellen: Is anything wrong?

Elaine: Well, Sue Ellen, it's a, it's not a top, it's a bra.

Sue Ellen: Oh, I know. Thanks again.

I’ve seen some birth control ads that boast of being able to “clear up acne” as well. Whatever it takes to sell it to teens, I guess.

I agree. Since this is an article, I won’t hold the writer to the same standard.

This is some post she evidently wrote for her forum.

When articles are written for major media outlets, they are proofread and corrected. Posts on forums generally aren’t.

I don’t know about you, but proofreading my own content is the hardest content to proofread. Knowing what I stated there’s a tendency to read sentences or phrases at a time, instead of words at a time.

The reader of someone else’s work is always a step ahead catching errors.

What they don't tell you about vaccines may kill you:

"Dr. Martin and his colleagues at USC's Infectious Diseases and Molecular Pathology Laboratories for the past eight years, have been meticulously culturing out stealth viruses from patients and, in a stunning development in early 2000, by using DNA sequence analysis they successfully identified one of the viruses as being of African green monkey origin. Kidney tissues from African green monkeys have been used to make the live oral polio vaccine (OPV) as well as other viral vaccines during the past three decades.

The monkey-related stealth virus they are studying, belonging to the herpes virus family that causes atypical viral infection of the brain – a “stealth virus encephalopathy” - is a cytomegalovirus that can produce a spectrum of disease symptoms without evoking an inflammatory response.

A person can become infected and can carry and transmit the virus to others without exhibiting symptoms. The stealth virus can also remain dormant in an infected individual, without exhibiting any symptoms, throughout life. However, the virus can become active, in some infected individuals, triggered possibly by significant mental or physical stress, and can go on to cause atypical responses to normal sensory input into the brain resulting in sudden, unexplained neurological symptoms. It is thought that the stealth virus can be transmitted by coming into direct contact with the virus (such as ingesting or being injected with a contaminated vaccine) or coming into contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected individual, similar to the HIV, hepatitis B, or polio viruses.

SYMPTOMS/CLINICAL CONDITIONS

The stealth virus is an atypical virus infecting both children and adults who are exhibiting various neurological, psychiatric and autoimmune disorder symptoms with diagnoses including chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, seizures, developmental delays, autism, lupus, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, unexplained encephalopathy and chronic vegetative states.
