When the North Caucasus slid into war Thursday night, it presented John McCain and Barack Obama with a true 3 a.m. moment, and their responses to the crisis suggested dramatic differences in how each candidate, as president, would lead America in moments of international crisis.
While Obama offered a response largely in line with statements issued by democratically elected world leaders, including President Bush, first calling on both sides to negotiate, John McCain took a remarkably and uniquely more aggressive stance, siding clearly with Georgias pro-Western leaders and placing the blame for the conflict entirely on Russia.

All of us Fredheads, Romneyites, Tancredoans, Giulianianians and all the Rest, wish it was our guy being nominated, but its not. We all feel our candidate is more conservative, better looking, a better speaker, or just younger than McCain, but he’s there and our guy isn’t.
But when you really stand back and look at World Affairs and how quickly world events can turn into WWIII, out of all the names, McCain may be just what we need to get us through the next four years. His 22 years in the Navy and 26 years in the Senate is vastly more important than Obamas 160 days in the Senate and 0 time in the military.
I’m not a big Bush fan, but God could give us no better man to lead us out of 9/11. Who would of thought that the country could bounce back so fast after that, and not be hit again?
For this very same reason, providence may have given us McCain. NOT THE BEST MAN, BUT THE RIGHT MAN.
Ralph Peters, who has been to Georgia, describes how to make sense of movements on the ground, describing what he believes are the logical Russian military goals.
Most likely little John’s illegitimate baby.
Nicely said....
So my initial reactions where true. Ralph just confirmed it.
Too damn true!
McCain blames Russia instead of mouthing diplomat-speak.
It seems to me the Russians are doing this now when the rest of the world is distracted by the Olympics.
I agree,Mccain knows enough to give it straight and clear,,obama just answers till his advisors tell him what would poll better,in his later, more clarified answer.I believe Mccain will be elected, unless the commies have corrupted our system enough to steal it for obama.Things are so complicated in our daily lives and Bush has dealt with very complicated times, and he must be OK,he made everyone mad!
So,I for one,am going to believe Mccain will roll with the punches and come out Ok,even though I really don’t like him,he definately is the best in the race.
Russia Rejects Cease-Fire With Georgia

Subject: The Irish- Such clear thinkers
Leave it to the Irish to cut through the crap and make the whole
issue crystal clear...
Thoughts from across the pond
An email from Ireland to the brethren in the States...a point to
ponder despite your political affiliation:
“We, in Ireland, can’t figure out why people are even bothering to
hold an election in the United States this year.
On one side, you have a pants wearing woman lawyer, married to a
lawyer who can’t keep his pants on,
who just lost a long and heated primary that they still haven’t paid
for yet, against a lawyer who states he is
“black” when it is documented that he is only 12% “black”, who goes
to the wrong church,
who has stated that he wants his countrymen to learn to speak Spanish
rather than English, who refuses to
put his hand over his heart and say the pledge of allegiance or wear
the flag of the country he wants to run,
who can’t remember if there are 50 or 57 states in his own country,
who is married to
yet another lawyer who doesn’t even like the country her husband wants to run.
Now...On the other side, you have a nice old war hero whose name
starts with the appropriate ‘Mc’ terminology,
married to a good looking younger woman who owns a beer dist ributorship.
What in Lord’s name are ye lads thinking over there in the colonies??”
To his credit, McCain is stating what many of us FReepers already know, and he is not afraid to say it: Russia is to blame for this war.
LOL in Ireland McCain would be President for life! _ It’s the beer that’s the clincher!
The bear has awakened from his sleep. Those rusty old nuclear subs will be replaced with new ones using oil and gas sales to Europe and the US.
