WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) helped draft and signed on to a bipartisan energy proposal that enables our nation become more energy independent.
The proposal, New Energy Reform Act of 2008 from the group dubbed the ‘Gang of 10’, contains provisions on offshore drilling, spent nuclear fuel recycling, promotes new technologies and conservation, and requires the oil companies to pay fair market prices for oil leases and drilling rights.

WASHINGTON – At a news conference on Capitol Hill today, U.S. Senators Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., joined a bipartisan coalition – informally known as the “Gang of 10” – in unveiling a sweeping energy proposal to reduce gas prices, lessen our nation’s dependence on foreign oil, and strengthen America’s economy.
The comprehensive New Energy Reform Act of 2008 — better known as the “New Era”— calls for a focused effort to transition the nation’s motor vehicle fleets to fuels other than gasoline and diesel. To ease gas prices in the interim, the proposal includes significant conservation provisions, consumer tax credits, and responsible measures to increase domestic production.

He and isakson are my Senators, and they BOTH received "nasty grams" from me over this latest (gave 'em hell last time they were talking of supporting ted kennedy's amnesty bill) f-up of their own doing.
THEY may be happy with being in the minority in perpetuity, but I'm not.
They better straighten up and fly right, or they'll pay at the polls (chambliss this time around).

This "reaching across the aisle", to what amount to the "domestic enemies" we have sworn to defend against, has GOT TO STOP.
It is getting us NOWHERE because the dems idea of compromise is "Give us what we want, and we'll sh*t on you".
The only way to win a war, be it cultural, political, or whatever, is TOTAL VICTORY.
We were doing well in the battle over energy, with McCain finally speaking up and growing somewhat of a pair, and the great Conservatives in the house raising hell, that is, until this "gang of 5" republicans cut us off at the knees.
In most cases, the LESS politicians do, the better off we are. And in cases where something must be done that can only be done by government (which is, in reality, not very often), then Conservatives taking the lead and pushing hard on principle and conviction, WITHOUT compromise with liberal maggots, is the way to go.
The bill/agreement gives both PETA and the ACLU veto power over any new drilling. It’s so larded down with regulations and restrictions, it would actually make it harder to get new oil. All this and more was covered in the Kimberley Strassel WSJ article Rush cited on Friday.
I am particularly dissappointed in Thune and Chambliss. I expect it from Graham. Corker is a little dissappointing.
Something about Lindsey makes me think when he says “Drill Here. Drill Now”, he’s looking back over his shoulder.
It took a week for this to get out. As pointed out its the “gang of 10” proposal. I have the Investors Daily article linked,in my website http://www.theusmat.com/ along with a survey asking if Bush should veto this if this gets to that point. WSJ also blasted this idea.

If these Senators actually believed what we believed, then they’d be doing the exact same things that Mitch McConnel has done, and what the House Republicans have done. No, instead, these elitest snobs have decided that it is acceptable to stab us in the back, cut our legs off at the knees, slice off our arms, and make us look like the Black Knight who still wants to fight in Monty Python Search for the Holy Grail!

Please explain how this proposed bill is better than the one Repubs in the House are trying to get a vote on.
Politicians are, well... politicians, regardless of which side of the isle they sit on. We can be disgusted all we want - but the reality is, they would rather cover their own costs and investments. If that means being a traitor to their own "party", or stabbing good men in the back - they will do it.
But I am disgusted too....

How many of these pukes are TRULY impacted by fuel costs? When was the last time any of them had to pay to fill up a gas tank out of their own pockets? For that matter, how many of them are impacted by the rapidly rising prices of consumer goods due to the high price of fuel and all the related scams tied too them (like ethanol)?

Why are you throwing the democrats and their nominee a life preserver? Why have you undercut the efforts of John McCain and the fine House Republicans that have actually made energy and oil an issue for this election? Is it really about being a statesmen and getting something done for the American people, or doing what they really want and just getting an up or down vote on the issue; which is lifting the ban on offshore oil production and ANWAR production? Also, haven’t you learned by now that the other side does not often play fair and by the same rules of bipartisanship that you seem to think still exists?
I would be all for reaching across the isle if the legislation is common sense, but as I understand this new “gang of 10” bill to be, it essentially allows the Sierra Club and other environmental extremist groups veto power over off shore drilling. How is this easing regulation to allow American access to American oil?
I am still suffering at the pump but worse yet, I see my fellow Americans and I sending our wealth over seas. Sharing is fine, as long as we are sharing opportunity. Allowing countries to join us in democracy is a good thing, and helping developing nations to foster that is good foreign policy, but sending 700 billion dollars over seas for energy has gone from impractical to unacceptable.
If you happen to remember what the great President Ronald Reagan said about the government’s view of the economy; “If it moves, tax it, if it keeps moving, regulate it, and if it stops moving, subsidize it.”
If we follow this simple phrase, we can see that none of what is in the current compromise makes sense. The federal, state, and local governments take more money in taxes than the oil companies actually make (fuel excise tax). Next, we’ve told the oil companies where they can put a rig and where they can’t. Worse, when they are allowed to operate on the leased lands, they are faced with senseless lawsuits to stop them after they’ve done sensible environmental impact studies. Additionally, the federal government has been grabbing land for reserves and parks to prevent even greater access to the American People’s oil and natural gas deposits. Finally, we apply the third and final part of Reagan’s government view of the economy, whereby we subsidize the alternative energy industry with massive tax credits. If these were such viable solutions to solving our energy problem or the fake global warming problem, then surely they should be able to survive and thrive on their own merits.
If you want a simple solution to this problem, follow these steps and in this order:
1) More AMERICAN oil production, inclusive of refining capacity with a simple, no nonsense, up or down vote.
2) Work to remove the various “boutique” fuel blends required by the EPA, and putting the country on one standard, clean burning gasoline and diesel fuel blend. Competing products only increase costs.
3) A bill that promotes nuclear energy and nuclear fuel reprocessing to reduce waste and provide 100% zero emissions electricity. If the United States Navy can put a reactor on a submarine, there is no reason this technology isn’t safe enough to power the general public’s electric use.
4) Pass legislation to make the fuel excise tax ONLY for road repairs and infrastructure improvements, and stop funneling it into the general fund. This would help alleviate congestion and thus conserve more transportation fuels.
5) Work with railroad companies to create the biggest and best rail system in the world for cargo and people transport, thus reducing the need for people to drive everywhere.
6) Provide incentives for business and homeowners to get on board with energy efficient buildings and homes, and I don’t mean Compact Florescent Light bulbs and their unintended consequences.
7) Instead of massive wind and solar farms, work with private investment, regulators, and landowners to move towards point of use power generation, thus minimizing the footprint for wind and solar farms as this technology becomes more efficient.
8) Stop pushing and subsidizing corn and food base ethanol/alcohol fuels. Here again, there is a competing product cost that has helped in part to drive rising food costs.
In summary, stop throwing the opposition a life preserver every time they start to drown under the pressure. This American, and many of his friends, simply want an up or down vote on ANWAR and Offshore oil production with NO STRINGS attached.
Remember, this is a battle worth fighting, and those whose seats are up for grabs come November, need your help to secure them. Thank you.

I wrote my Senators, Chambliss and Isakson, letters as well, but I have to admit, after having to raise hell with MY "republican" Senators previously on their initial support of ted kennedy's Amnesty bill for illegals, I was much less "cordial" in my latest emails to them.
Hopefully, they'll straighten up and fly right, as my Mom used to say.
