A wolf pack of at least 30 thugs viciously attacked two hero ex-Marines in Brooklyn after they rescued a teenage girl who was being assaulted, police and witnesses said yesterday. And when the brother of one of the former servicemen tried to come to his rescue during the July 25 melee in Coney Island, he was beaten into a coma. The former leathernecks, Valentyn Olenyev, 23, and Boris Bukler, 22, Russian émigrés who served tours in Iraq, were walking a female friend to her parked car on West 23rd Street at 12:30 a.m. when they spotted two men holding the screaming teen by her hands and legs. "She was yelling, 'Help!' "..."It wasn't our intention to get into a fight," said Bukler. "We said, 'Let the girl go, and we'll leave.' We told them, 'Stop.' "She was screaming, and all we did was look to help her. I got a bottle smashed over my head, and after that, I started fighting. But I got beat down. "I was getting my ass kicked by 50 people." Their friend called Olenyev's brother, Ivan, 22. "When I showed up, there were a lot of people there, people on the left and people on the right, and then - 'Boom!' - I got hit and passed out,"...Police sources said he was pounded senseless by 240-pound Timothy Dixon, 23, who was swinging a metal baseball bat. Ivan suffered multiple facial fractures and will require plastic surgery. The NYPD is looking for Dixon, who remains at large....The two former Marines, meanwhile, insist that the violence had racial overtones, although the assault has not been labeled a bias crime. Bukler said, "Those in the crowd were yelling, 'Hey, white boys, you're in the 'hood now!' We were yelling back, 'We don't care - we live here!'

As a former Marine I can tell you that was my first thought too.
That was my first thought. Ex-marines ought be carrying.
Just in case you weren't being sarcastic, I'm pretty certain these Marines weren't beat up by anti-war protesters.
I highly doubt that the thugs who did this have ever even heard of Code Pink.

No s*** it had racial overtones. I have witnessed and been the target of such race based mob violence in my youth. And I dont even have to mention the race for us all to know which one it is.
Whites need to demand that if there are hate crimes then the laws should be be enforced equally for all races. No justice, no peace.
This case will get the “Wichita Massacre” treatment, you just watch! The press will make this story disappear.
Thank goodness nobody had a gun. Somebody could have gotten hurt.

Police departments all over the country have been arming themselves to the teeth, practicing and training in military tactics, and getting ready for some sort of serious action - and yet it seems the only use of such force has been to serve no-knock warrants and to prepare for something as yet unannounced - yet thugs like this gang are basically free to wander the streets and assaulting whoever they want.
If there was ever a legitimate reason for police forces to be armed heavily - it was to deal with such thugs.
But I guess the tactics they have been practicing are better served using against disarmed citizens who resist a totalitarian state...
Wonderful to read not only that the two heroes are Marines who served in Iraq but also that they are Russian emigres. They surely deserve their citizenship in the land of the free.

Sorry folks, but the die is cast. The pendulum has swung in the other direction, and young blacks feel it's time for the rest of us to pay for their lack of self-worth. For the most part, the black community have lost control of their youth, and this is the results. My black friends are as appalled as I am, embarrassed and uncomfortable. However they know if they say anything, they too can become targets of vicious attacks. The youth are now no more than a loose-knit tribal gang that feed on each other and any innocent bystander who happens to cross their path at the wrong time. They feel that laws should not and do not apply to them. We live in a very scary world...
I was not raised with these thoughts or intentions. However, age, observations, and experience (Yes, I've been jumped too, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. TG42A.) has shown me that the respect for life is gone. The only life you can value is your own and those of your friends and loved ones. Tread carefully and be prepared...Dubh

Concealed carry would have solved that situation.

Now turn the situation around and have two black guys being beat senseless by at least 30 white guys and the papers would be screaming racism from one coast to the other coast. The attorney general would be yelling for the feds to intervene with arrests and public trial. However, since it was the hood boys (black) almost murdering honkeys (white), that’s not a racist altercation nor is it a racists beating. Already is discrimination in the worst form.
