Olympic organizers refused to let a seven-year-old sing at the opening ceremony because she was too chubby, it has been revealed.

Lin Miako, the little girl who stole the show on Friday, did not actually sing a note and was miming throughout.

Instead, the voice heard by millions around the world was that of seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was ditched from the ceremony because of her chubby face and uneven teeth.

Organizers also admitted parts of the lavish opening ceremony were pre-recorded.

The ceremony won rave reviews around the world for its use of fireworks and a series of perfectly choreographed sequences, watched by an estimated 1 billion people.

Some of the fireworks though did not actually go off that night. 'Some footage had been produced before the opening ceremony to provide theatrical effect,' Beijing Games Executive Vice President Wang Wei said.

Among the sections that were pre-produced were parts of a stunning fireworks display across the city, a series of fireworks "footprints" that led to the Bird's Nest stadium where the four-hour extravaganza was staged.

A night-time aerial shot traced the consecutive explosions on the ground as they approached the stadium.

'There were footprints of fireworks,' Wang added.

'Some of them were genuinely produced. Some maybe were used from previously recorded material.'

Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony, said: ‘The reason why little Yang was not chosen to appear was because we wanted to project the right image, we were thinking about what was best for the nation.

‘The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression.

‘Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects. But in terms of voice, Yang Peiyi is perfect, each member of our team agreed.’

Very true Marni Nixon was the voice of many a famous song in the movies and no one knew for years.

I don’t like illegals being encouraged to come over our borders - and I don’t like sucking up to & raving about the Chinese Olympics either.

While the girl on the left is certainly model beautiful, that little girl on the right is just plain adorable!

I think she would have captured the hearts more than knowing it was a Britney Spears moment.

I guess we have to be thankful that both these beautiful little girls survived sex selection abortion and infanticide.

Given the abortion proclivities of the Chinese, particularly concerning females, I guess both little girls are lucky to have made it to childhood.

“...I don’t like sucking up to & raving about the Chinese Olympics either.”

Yes! I thought it was just me.

THe LeftMedia cannot seem to fawn enough over the Chinese. Since they seem to love the Chinese system so much, I wonder what talentless (OK, the lefty Bob Costas DOES have immense talent), commentators get paid under a Communist regime.

* The voices of the angels heard by Ingrid Bergman in Joan of Arc (1948)
* The singing voice of Margaret O’Brien in The Secret Garden (1949)
* Providing Marilyn Monroe with a few top notes in her performance of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ (1953)
* The singing voice for Deborah Kerr in the Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King and I (1956) (on some tracks of the film, Kerr’s and Nixon’s voices were skillfully intertwined)
* The singing voice for Deborah Kerr in An Affair to Remember (1957)
* The singing voice for Natalie Wood as Maria in West Side Story (1961) and also sang some parts of the score of Anita played by Rita Moreno, sharing the load with co-dubber Betty Wand and Moreno herself. In parts of the quintet setting of the song “Tonight”, she sings both Maria and Anita’s lines.
* The singing voice for Audrey Hepburn as Eliza in My Fair Lady (1964), for which Nixon gained much notoriety, as news-eager journalists ripped apart the customary veil of secrecy. Industry buzz has said this to have been the cause of Hepburn failing even to get nominated for an Academy Award for the demanding role.**

Nixon appeared finally on screen singing for herself in the film The Sound of Music as Sister Sophia
