Texas Is Fed Up With Corn Ethanol
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 12, 2008 | RICK PERRY

Posted on 08/12/2008 9:29:42 AM PDT by djsherin

At what price will corn be so expensive that the federal government will decide that it is time to stop driving up the price of food?

Three years ago, Congress imposed a Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) mandate that has forced the gasoline industry to mix massive amounts of corn-based ethanol into the nation's fuel supply. In 2007, Congress nearly doubled that mandate to require nine billion gallons of ethanol be blended into gas in 2008 and even more in 2009.

But, as a safety valve, Congress gave the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the power to waive the new mandates if they turn out to have unforeseen, negative consequences.

It does have bad effects, but recent cars can generally handle 10-15% ethanol without a problem.

Older cars, especially carbureted ones.... well, they’re in trouble.

Neat little trick to see how much ethanol is in gas. Get a test tube and put some gasoline in it. Mark the gas line on the tube. Add some water and shake. Any alcohol will mix with the water and the gas level will go down accordingly.

Barring an early frost or cooling, this years report of a very abundant corn crop should cause a drop in the price of corn. Also a number of ethanol plants had to close because they could not afford to make ethanol with the high price of corn.

~~~Mr. Perry, a Republican, is the governor of Texas.~~~ They just had to throw that in there didn't they. Like it makes a difference who's side he's on...it's the truth and as usual the environazi’s are incapable of recognizing the facts!
Not one MSM rag noted that psycopathic criminal Kwame Kilpatrick is a Dem. The MSM are SCUM.
He’s created a business-friendly environment in the state
If you are a large corporation, maybe. If you are a small business, Perry is poison. He instituted a state income tax on small businesses, with the STUPIDEST new franchise tax in American history, based on sales, rather than profits.
Lots of small businesses (mine included) are being punished on both ends - the property tax relief promised did not apply to us, and the new franchise tax kicked in.
God help me - I voted for Gov. Trans-Pappiloma, so I guess I deserved it.
Just further evidence that this government and by extension, this administration doesn’t give a rats arse about the peons they think they rule or anyone else other than their rich (and getting richer) fat cat crony buddies in their crimes against the working class (poor people). Come election time this will be one of the criteria I use to allocate my votes, i.e. if any of my elected congressional critters support or supported this atrocity I will vote for the other guy regardless of party and not feel the least bit of guilt about it.
It’s funny how “soak the rich” policies and politicians that fight “for the people” end up hurting the poor and middle class and make social mobility more difficult, keeping everyone where they are. But hey, at least they’ll always have a constituency to “feed”.
