PVS is the only modern medical diagnosis that denies the personhood of a patient, and thus is fraught with logical and ethical problems.

And denial of personhood is EXACTLY what the culture of death wants.

I’d like to mention as a reminder that if any member of your family is ever brought to a hospital in an unconscious state, be very sure that the oxygen they are being given has been warmed.

Cold oxygen, especially through a nasal tube, has been linked with progressive brain damage in some situations, that could turn a recoverable state into an extended or permanent coma. It flows right past a major artery, and can significantly cool blood flowing to the brain.

Yet at the same time, be aware that under some circumstances of cardiac arrest and stroke, brain cooling can prevent damage. So the best advice is to talk to the doctor about it as soon as possible. If they have no idea what you are talking about, it would be wise to get a second opinion immediately.

It can be a situation where minutes matter.

I will begin in the next week or so by discussing the medical aspects of the diagnosis of persistent vegetative state. I hope Dr. Novella will join me in this important public discussion.

Terrific!

“PVS is the medical assertion that a human being is an object, but not a subject.”

If that doesn’t sum it all up.

Never forget what the courts and the Culture of Death Industry did to her and to all of us.
