Two Republicans endorse Obama
LA Times ^ | Aug 13, 2008 | Kate Linthicum

Barack Obama likes to talk about "Obamacans" -- Republicans who he says approach him at political events and quietly pledge their support for his presidential candidacy.

On Tuesday, he snagged two more Republicans, but these were high-profile politicians willing to speak out on his behalf.

The first was former U.S. Rep. Jim Leach of Iowa, who endorsed him during a conference call with reporters.

Leach said he was concerned about the "current philosophy of government" and worried that John McCain would be "more of the same."

For those who don’t want to click on the LATimes site: the other one is Jim Whitaker, mayor of the Fairbanks North Star Borough in Alaska.

The only that matters here is Watts. Chafee and ilk were never Conservatives/Republicans to begin with. I’m sorely dissapointed that a Conservative like Watts is being blinded by Obama’s color.

Gorbachev is backing Putin because the alternative is a painful death.

I wonder if there’s a threat involved (somebody’s found Hillary’s FBI files again) or if these guys are just RINOs.

I find it hard to believe a true free market American could even contemplate siding with a Marxist

The thing that really chafes me about Chafee is that Bush worked to try and help re-elect him, and then threw John Bolton under the bus to appease him, fruitless as it has turned out.

It’s more evidence there is a one party system in this country because the GOP insists on incrementally moving towards the socialist left.

This is a problem with President Bush, not Mr. Chafee.

Iowa= ethanol. Darn skippy he doesn’t want anyone who wants to drill for OIL. I could be wrong, and many ppl will happily point it out and gloat, but every time I have heard a politician from Iowa speak lately, they are against drilling.

Watts told Sean Hannity he would not support Obama. I was glad to hear that.

Who is this Mayor Whitaker? If he is a long time liberal like Leach then this is no surprise. Of course though this is making big news since the media are obviously wanting to give the impression the GOP is somehow divided. When some big name Democrats endorse McCain we’ll see how much of a story that becomes. Probably not much.

JC Watts is a minister. How can a minister support someone who supports partial birth abortion?

How can a minister supports a man who is part of the Black Liberation Theology movement which says the white man is evil and must be destroyed?
