DALLAS, Aug 15, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Below is a statement issued by T. Boone Pickens following his meeting this morning with U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) in Aspen, Colorado: "It was a pleasure to sit down with Senator McCain and discuss firsthand an issue that is America's top priority: ending our dependence on foreign oil, which today is approaching 70 percent. We plan on having a similar meeting with Senator Obama in the very near future. I have repeatedly stressed the nonpartisan aspects of my initiative. This is a threat to our economic and national security and something that requires bipartisan support. During the meeting I reiterated the urgency of the situation. I told him that any credible domestic energy policy must reduce our foreign dependence on foreign oil by at least 30% in the next 10 years (on top of conservation that is beginning to happen), must utilize proven and available technologies and be 100 percent comprised of American resources.

While I can not speak for the Senator, my sense is that he was interested and encouraged by the work we are doing and recognizes that citizen education and citizen involvement is key to changing course and actually developing a real energy policy with teeth that will help this country from our current disastrous path."

Thanks for the image.
Michelle Malkin calls him "Big Windy" :-)
Blow it out your ear T bone! maybe that will power your windmills
Pickens has always made his money manipulating markets, cashing in and then bailing out

Conservation has been happening for decades, and the other item is about 180 degrees out from where I see congress heading. Smoke, mirrors, drug induced dreams, bad science, and utopian thinking are what I see.
T-bone should stick to oil. Leave science to those of us who know math.

Kinda makes you want to barf doesn't it?
Hey T Boone,
Use some of your untold millions in wealth to build a 250,000 watt windfarm. Get your accountants to tell you exactly how much it cost you.
Then get your accountants to tell US how much per kW hour this type of energy will cost.
After you have done that, give us tax-payers a call.

I perfer to call him Slim Pickens, because if we adopt his plan thats how abundant energy will be.
He has walked the talk.
It doesn’t hurt to meet with the guy. Just don’t compromise. It has been compromise that has gotten us into this energy conundrum.
These are the issues that McCain and other candidates should keep in mind.
1. America energy policy has been held hostage by radical environmental and conservation groups who have spent billions to get liberal Democrats elected to block domestic energy production and push for onerous regulations that have not only stifled the energy industry but have driven companies overseas.
2. Private Oil companies are not the problem. They want to drill and are drilling and are diversifying their energy offerings planning for a future when Oil will play less of a role. Their profits are dwarfed by the taxes paid to the federal government and the profits of most nationalized Oil companies from which most of our oil comes.
3. New refineries to process increased Oil volume have not been built and have been blocked by the same radical environmental activists that have funded liberal Democrats to block Oil exploration.
4. The same radical interests have blocked highly effective alternatives like Nuclear power and have worked against the increased utilization of coal which is one of our most abundant natural resources.
McCain just needs to keep his mind clear on this issue.
Wind can certainly be a part of our long term energy solution but it also is certainly not a realistic near term solution. Also building huge wind fields in the Midwest has the obvious problem of increased risk from natural disaster.
There be tornadoes in them there fields.
“If McCain is smart he would steer away from this Boonedoggle, especially with Pickens being in bed with Nancy Pelosi.”
As I’ve said, although we know that TBP is huge on natural gas, I’ve watched his speech to congress in total (twice), and he definitely says we MUST drill for more oil here first, as well as coal, oil shale - all of it. While he also recommend alternative energy sources as well (so do the Republicans - i.e. “All the Above”) - why do you say he’s in bed with the wicked witch of the west? Please enlighten me.
It pains me to watch these Republicans in name only adopt the same ideas that led us to the crisis we are currently in. The sad thing is people are taking this seriously. Compromise does nobody any good if people deal away what is really important. Slim Pickens and Nurse Pelosi dont care one bit about 4 dollar gasoline, they are millionaires and 100dollar a gallon gasoline wouldnt affect them. These people are so out of touch with real americans it should be infurating to anyone who actually can bare to listen to them talk. They think we are idiots and everyone should be offended by them.
He's an equal opportunity lobbyist -- only because he doesn't know yet who's going to win the election.
