Look, you all know I’m as conservative as any of you out there.
I’m just looking at November and what could be the best way for us to win, considering the silly-putty nature of the general electorate.
If you think “conservative only” will solidify the vote, cool. However, the liberal press and “change” voters I fear won’t be as accommodating.
Rice will be rejected by the vast majority Blacks as a “token uncle tom”. They will stay Democrat to 90+ %. Forget about them. Those who prioritize foreign policy are already well served by McCain. Rice adds NOTHING to McCain’s strengths. Then she is a social liberal, which is an election killer for McCain. He needs someone who is socially conservative.
Condi Rice, of course, and I’ve thought this way since before the campaign began.
Anyone who believes that someone like Mitt Romney or untested newbies like Pawlenty or Sarah Palin can outdo Hillary Clinton as a veep choice among women voters is simply whistling past the graveyard. Talk like that is what the True Believers tell each other at CPAC.
I now believe that Obama wants to nail down the election by putting Clinton on as the Veep Choice. Rice is McCain’s only credible answer that wraps up both experience and change in the same package.
This isn’t fair to the conservative base, but who said life was fair?
Be Seeing You,
Chris
This has absolutely nothing to do with "conservative only". I am an American first and a "Conservative" second and have been going toe to toe with the McCain-hating "purists" on FR for months. My Post 13 on this thread says it all.
My point is that America needs a person with backbone both in the Oval Office and a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.
McCain has a backbone. Condi Rice does not.
