As Democrats prepare to nominate Sen. Barack Obama to be the first black president, the Democratic National Committee and its chairman, Howard Dean, have whitewashed the party's horrific and lengthy record of racism. The omission is in the section of the DNC Web site that describes the party's history. The missing history raises the obvious question of whether the Democrats, unable or simply unwilling to put their party on record as taking direct responsibility for one of the worst racial crimes of the ages, will be able to run a campaign free of the racial animosities it has regularly brought both to American presidential campaigns and American political and social life in general.
...
So what's missing?

"The 1964 Civil Rights Act Roll Call Vote: In the House, only 64 percent of the Democrats (153 yes, 91 no), but 80 percent of the Republicans (136 yes, 35 no), voted for it. In the Senate, while only 68 percent of the Democrats endorsed the bill (46 yes, 21 no), 82 percent of the Republicans voted to enact it (27 yes, 6 no)."
The history of the Democratic party isn’t missing, it began yesterday.
Powerful stuff. Lets see if there is a shred of honesty left in some mainstream media to actually ask questions to the Democrats based off of these facts.
I won’t hold my breath.
Just as Hoover got the blame for The Great Depression, Johnson got credit for the Civil Rights Act getting passed? Both are perpetuated political myths?
I've always found it ironic that blacks in America were enslaved and oppressed for nearly 400 years, but once they were free to vote, they vote for the enslavement and oppression of everyone else.
Yup... and that's how the DBM portrays it as well.
Hey... Don’t forget George B. McClellan.
He was the General Lincoln fired for not fighting during the civil war and then he became the DumocRAT nominee in 1864 and ran (and thankfully lost) against Lincoln with an anti-civil war stance. His preference was to appease the south and let slavery continue on.... Another in long list of Democrat nominees who you can thank you’re lucky stars you didn’t elect.
Kerry, Gore, Dukakis, Mondale, Carter a second time, McGovern.... Just think what mess you would be in today if one of the above fools had been elected or re-elected.
Clinton may be an exception, he managed when times were good economically because of the internet exploding on the scene, but his lack of attention to terrorism did have a price... It’s called 9/11.
Democrats in office are so fond of issuing apologies on behalf of the USA and millions of people who had nothing to do with the Historical Transgresion Of The Day.
The presumptuous panderers never hesitate to step outside the boundaries of their elective position when they sense an opportunity to make some points for themselves and the Democrat party and to belittle the USA with faux apologies and alligator tears.
I would like to see someone on live TV ask Democrats at the convention why the Democrats and the DNC itself do not issue public apologies to blacks for their own historical rabid racism and racist conduct.
On December 15, 1994, federal Judge David V. Kenyon issued a court order to the Clinton Administration in the Case of Fairchild v Robert Reich Secretary of Labor (#CV92-5765 Kn). The order demanded that Secretary Reich and the Clinton Administration force 100 west coast shipping to develop an Affirmative Action plan to stop discrimination against, African Americans, Hispanics, Female and Disabled Workers. Female employees were being sexually harrassed, Hispanic were being denied promotions and training, Disable Workers were being laid off, and African Americans were being force to work in an environment where they had job classification called " Nigger Jobs." Clinton left office six years later and never complied with the court order. The companies still do not have an Affirmative Action Plan. President Clinton sent 20, 000 troops to protect the white citizens of Europe's Bosnia, but sent no troops to Africa's Rwanda to protect the black citizens there. Consequently over 800,000 Africans were massacreLINK with full document.
Sorry about the eye-strain no separation... didn’t think about it before I posted :/
“....that blacks in America were enslaved......for nearly 400 years....”
small point, but 1776 - 1865 = only 89 years
The rats won’t have long to pine for Hillary.
The Messiah in Training doesn’t have a chance of winning.
Hillary will use the convention to stomp his inexperienced butt into the ground. She will then emerge fresh from her 3 month hiatus from campaigning.
I was counting from the discovery of the continent by Columbus until approximately the Voting Rights Act’s passage, but your point is nonetheless valid.
the 400 year claim has been thrown around since the mid 1960’s, and I suppose by now it is even taught in some classrooms.....
This party keeps going on two very different types of support: radicals and people who are "ancestrally" Democrat. And the fact that each group has no problem cooperating with the other shows just how lacking in idealism they truly are.
The Democrat party should have been banned during Reconstruction. A United States whose two parties were Republican and Prohibition would probably be very different from today's moral cesspool.
Don’t let their voters, or co-conspirators, off the hook. They are as much to blame for this diabolical bunch of miscreants as anybody.
My dad used tell me, before I was interested in politics, that Bill Clinton was bad. But what scared him was the people who voted him into office. And I couldn’t agree more with that sentiment today.
Why do you call that a "small" point; I think it is a very significant point.
This is also a significant point, 1776 - 1808 = 32 years. January 1, 1808 an act of congress prohibits the African slave trade by outlawing any further importation of slaves into the United States.
Prior to 1808, the following significant events had already occurred.
1777 While still a colony, Vermont abolishes slavery.
1780 Pennsylvania is the first state to abolish slavery.
1783 Slavery is illegal in Massachusetts by judicial interpretation of the Massachusetts Constitution. Maryland outlaws the slave trade.
1784 Connecticut and Rhode Island abolish slavery.
1785 New York makes slavery illegal
1786 New Jersey outlaws slavery
1787 Congress bars slavery in the Northwest Territory.
1803 Ohio is the first state created out of the Northwest Territory and therefore the first state to forbid slavery from the states inception.
By 1819, the United States consisted of eleven slave states and eleven free states.
1820 The Missouri Compromise directs Maine to enter the union as a free state and Missouri as a slave state and forever prohibited slavery in the rest of the Louisiana Purchase.
Slavery existed long before American adopted it and slavery exists long after America abolished it. Slavery exists in the world to this day.
Perhaps we should spent more attention to what America did right and less on what America did wrong by applauding America and England for abolishing slavery
ahem.....re “400 hundred years” usually I just let it fall on my own deaf ears, since it is so old and so false, but I sometimes forget that I am getting old and that the worn-out falsehood does impress young minds, at least those being groomed to hate America
I think the two groups I mentioned are pretty much the entire Democrat party.
