Communist symbol returns to Russian Army's flag

Russia's Parliament has voted to restore the communist-era hammer and sickle to the official flag of the Russian Army.

It is expect President Vladimir Putin will ratify the move in time for next week's commemorations marking the end of World War II in Europe.

I don’t take Putin’s quote as wanting to return to Communism, but what he lamented was the loss of power. They admire the power of the Soviet Union, any similarities end there.

The Soviet Union was powerful militarily, but weak economically, and that was due to the failure of Socialism.

Putin knows this, and now with oil he can make Russia powerful both economically AND militarily. It’s no longer about ideology.

you're wrong — the Russians are restarting their conquest of the Caucasus into Iran. The Communists only interrupted Russia's advance. If you read up on how the state of Muscovy advanced from being a tiny principality under the thumb of the Golden Horde, to conquering Kazan and Astrakhan, to conquering the Khan-ate of Siberia and the Crimean Tartars, to their 19th century wars against Persia, you will understand that Putin aims to bring back the days of the Tzar's, not the days of the Commissars.
