Rice to visit Poland to sign missile shield deal

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday she would travel to Poland in coming days to ink a deal on installing US interceptor missiles on Polish territory.

"I'm going to Poland to sign a missile defense agreement in the next couple of days, after the NATO meeting," she told Fox News Sunday.

Foreign ministers of the 26 NATO members are due to meet in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the crisis in Georgia, after a five-day war between Tbilisi and Moscow over the pro-Moscow region of South Ossetia.

Relations between Russia and the former Soviet Republic of Poland reached a new low after Moscow voiced fury at Warsaw's sudden announcement Thursday that it had reached a deal on the long-touted missile shield with the US.

The timing of the announcement infuriated Russia which said the weapons were clearly pointed at Moscow and warned they made Poland a legitimate military target.

"We are going to help rebuild Georgia into a strong Georgian state. The Russians will have failed in their effort to undermine Georgia. And we will be looking at what we can do with the states around that region as well," Rice said.

She is due to leave for Brussels on Monday.

I know that Rice has repeatedly stated over the years that she is not interested in being VP but isn’t it interesting that she is currently getting so much “face” time...

I don’t know his politics but Gen. Patraeus might make an excellent choice of VP. A “wartime consigliere”...

I realize that I am probably in a distinct minority with this view, but I am really looking forward to the departure of Secretary Rice.

Ooops! Actually you're right.
I've not been there for quite a long time. Looks, like they have changed something on the web-page, that I had copied those pictures from.

I'll have to take care about that.

Thanks anyway! :-)

We just can’t seem to keep our nose out of other peoples business.

I’m sorry but to put the shield right in the face of Russia is asking for trouble.

We involved ourselves in Serbia.
Now the muslims have laid claim to kosovo.
We pretend we want to be friends with Russia but, we can’t wait to put our face in their relm of the World.

This part of the world should be taken care of by the EU.

What does she have to back up this bluster? Bush will thankfully be gone in a few months.

Of course McCain could crack and launch the missiles and Obama would, well let's not think about that. This country is goig into a very bad period. And it id no time for idle posturing with those who know your weaknesses.

We're the good guys. Rah rah. God is on our side. We want to spread the abstraction of democracy to murderous cretins. Even if it means putting otherworldly beasts in power.

The Poles need to tell the Russians they are trying to prevent accidental mushroom clouds appearing upwind from Russia. Such is all these missiles can do. Do the Russians want to inhale another Chernobyl?

How about Cheney visits to sign it? Condi might make some ineligible signature. How it would be ineligible, I don’t know.

Let them suck the green wind. They’d still blame Poland anyway.

Russia has just shown the forgetful why countries like Poland want to stay free from the Soviets or Russians or whatever the Communists call themselves these days. I’m glad that they are able to partner with us now and hope that Poland will continue to be a free nation and will continue to overcome the German and Soviet occupations.

If we have another cold war with Russia you can lay the blame right at the door steps of the USA.

I can not blame the Russians for not wanting the American missile shield near their country.

The Polls will survive without the alleged help of the USA.

No, chezoslovakia will be ok,

What you folks seem to not undersand is that Russia has about 2k nuclear tipped missiles.

Send a card to Clinton tell him how much you appreciate his decision to help the muslims take land that belonged to Serbia for over a two thousand years.
The Russians are looking!

If a war breaks out in Eastern Europe all the USA will do is stand by and watch.

Western Europe will do the same thing.

God never died and left the USA in charge of the planet.

We are almost over our heads with the islam terrorist.
I am sure they are loving every minute of this Russian conflict and praying to allah we have more.
