ISLAMABAD, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf stepped down from his post Monday, ending a nearly nine-year tenure that his opponents said was hindering Pakistan's shaky return to democracy.
Musharraf said he wanted to spare Pakistan from a dangerous power struggle with opponents vowing to impeach him. He said he was satisfied that all he had done "was for the people and for the country."

No one seems to be talking about the nukes.
So instead, he creates a power vacuum that the Taliban will fill.
Wasn’t there speculation at one time that we were in control of their nukes? Surely he wouldn’t step down without making some provision for their security?
He wouldn't?
Why?
Oh no problem, I’m sure the State Department has it all under control, just like that little skirmish in Georgia last week. Rest easy. Trust me.
Does this mean Obamas invasion is off?
More details, but not the most important details.
I think he has been brought down by the Muslim fanatics who were elected to office, but perhaps with some help from the corrupt remnants of Benazier Bhutto’s party?
Bhutto worked with al Qaeda earlier, even though she presented herself to the press as a secularist, westernized democrat.
Musharraf wasn’t great, but he was probably the best we could do. I don’t think the press or the State Department were helpful when they backed her before the assassination.
Except FR of course. We’re nearly always ahead of the curve.
A Fox infobabe just mentioned the nukes in passing.
*sigh*
Different details, so I'm not going to ask to pull this one, but I think we should focus our replies to the older thread.
It’s noooze you can yooose.
*sigh*
Every bit of fluff surrounding the most critical issue.
Nothing on point.
He was asked ...
“Where are the keys to the nukes, when need the keys now da@#$@ so hand them over”
vaudine
That’s sooooo last year...
2) How doe this affect Pakistani/US cooperation?
3) Who has control of Pakistan's nukes?
Of the three I think who has control of Pakistan's nukes is the most important.
Nukes in the hands of terrorists is the last thing any civilized country wants.
Musharraf wasnt great, but he was probably the best we could do.

Well placed conservatives have said as much.....”Pakistan has long been one car bomb” away from having it’s government and nukes taken by a bin Laden-ally seizing power”.
None of this is good and worse than him will most likely follow him into power. If you think that support from Pak for the war on terrorists was bad before just wait.
