With five seats on the State Board of Education up for grabs this year, education advocates say how children learn about evolution hangs in the balance -- and who voters choose could affect Kansas' national reputation.
A frequent flip-flop between moderate and conservative majorities on the 10-member board has resulted in the state changing its science standards four times in the past eight years.
Conservatives have pushed for standards casting doubt on evolution, and moderates have said intelligent design does not belong in the science classroom.
In 2007, a new 6-4 moderate majority removed standards that called evolution into question.
This year, none of the three moderates whose seats are up for election are running again. Only one of the two conservative incumbents is running for re-election...

Then quit bitching about Darwin.
“...show me you can do the science AS I DEFINE SCIENCE”
there fixed it!
Of course, if your “science education” doesn’t have the approved “mark of the beast” you will not be allowed to “buy or sell”.
Seriously, you need to get in touch with the Louisiana people, because you’ve demonstrated you can’t handle and/or understand input here.
Besides that, you’re not interested in science, that too has been adequately demonstrated.
Again, I would seriously consider anger-at-God management!
You’re using the exception to prove the rule. Do holy wars and religious genocide damage and smear religion?
No, but they may do serious irreparable damage to those that misunderstand it.
And how about Hitler and his wars, Stalin and his...pol pot...do their actions damage secularism/atheism?
never-ending projections.
you still haven’t explained why you need to drag law into science to enforce your definition of it.
not that you can or will, but perhaps you can explain why global warming junk science isn’t attacked and sued into silence with the same fervor?
hint: it’s got nothing to do with science!
Time and again,
the objections people put out front to justify their non-faith,
are just veneer excuses.
It really is a waste of time to address these front issues, it’s like shooting at decoys. As soon as you knock one down, they’ll put up another one and present it as the reason for their rejection of God.
You like to sit back and decide who is and isn’t a Christian, but it pisses you off to have someone tell you who is or isn’t a scientist?
You gotta be kidding me!
Stinking up the place like you have and you dare attack someone else? LOL
The lone female no less...like the ACLU sneaks that threaten legal action when no one is looking!
You prove that godless liberals “know” science like they know journalism, politics, history, law and so on.
That’s it. That’s the extent of your existence on this thread.
You have ZERO business or credibility in criticizing another person.
“Nobody, except your co-religionists, pays the least bit of credence to your opinions on matters of science, and for good reason.”
You can show us where ANYONE other than another godless liberal buys into a solitary thing YOU’ve said?
Man o man, godless liberal hypocrats...
Wet paper bag syndrome, endless projections...
“unspecified entity having unspecified capabilitues and limitations, did some unspecified something at unspecified times and places using unspecified methods for unspecified reasons.”
misunderstanding only proves you misunderstand.
And then there’s your case, incapable of understanding COMBINED with the ever present unquestioned DEMAND to never ever understand with the audacity to criticize others for your own pathology.
then there’s the very definition of failure: everything godless liberals touch!
I haven’t mentioned credentials. I simply ask for a clear statement of how the accumulated evidence should be interpreted, and what Louisiana should be teaching, now that they have legal authorization.
and you’ve demonstrated time and again you have zero interest in science, rather you’re aware of that fact or not.
I don’t preesume to get to decide who is or isn’t Christian but God gives me the knowledge and ability and judgment to identify BOTH Christianity and science.
It’s easy to spot posers for both, and godless liberals manage to misunderstand not only Christianity and science but objective journalism, history, law, and so on.
Sane people are able to see how failed godless liberalism has been for this country and you needn’t be a Christian or scientist to see that!
Read much?
Try again, ALL along I’ve had no problem with the presentation of Darwinism, but only a fair presentation of all ideas.
My beef is with godless liberals suing Christians into silence and then pretending they’re objective about ANYTHING!
And you submit implicitly that your judgement of both is infallable because it comes from God.
So anybody with an "idea" gets equal time in science class. No evidence, no peer review, no problem. All ideas and theories are equal and deserve their fair share of the student's time and attention.
So basically you have elimated any private or Jesuit High School, some of which are the best in the country, to attend college?
Jesuit education includes evolution, as Catholic doctrine accepts biological evolution as modern Science that is not in conflict with faith. This is one of the reasons why Jesuit education IS one of the best in the nation.

Venturing into the category of the fallibilty of the reasoning of man, are we?
