Barack Obama Defends Patriotism To Vets

ORLANDO, FLA. -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama defended his patriotism today, chiding rival John McCain for impugning his integrity and challenging the Republican to acknowledge that they can disagree without maligning each other.

"I have never suggested that Sen. McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition," Obama told an audience of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. "I have not suggested it because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America's national interest. Now it's time for him to acknowledge that I want to do the same."

One day after McCain addressed the same group, Obama gave a spirited defense of his foreign policy positions, using events in the last few days to buttress his argument that "the calamity left behind by the last eight years is too great" to merely "use the same partisan playbook where we just challenge our opponent's patriotism to win an election."

On Iraq, the Illinois senator said that while the surge may have worked militarily, it has failed politically.

I would’ve loved to hear the conversation after this fool left the stage. No one has ever asked him about his patriotism only he mentiones it over and over but yet he thinks it’s ok to treat a war hero like this? Go back to Chicago Barry you are out of your league here!

Only a political masochist would do such a thing!

Obama loves America and is patriotic in the manner expressed by liberals; to wit, criticism is the highest form of patriotism and fixing problems makes America better.

His elders put it more succinctly forty years ago: America: Fix It or Forget It.

The ghost of George Patton must have been on stage trying to slap Obama silly.

Patriot : one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests

hmmm... well, we know he and Michelle don’t love the country as it is. They, like most leftists “love” the USSA that they envision, and that’s as close as they get.

And, as far as supporting its authority and interests - well, that’s a laugher, because he’d gladly turn over decisions to an international body that DOESN’T have America’s best interests in mind.

[Repost from mine in other thread...]

Mr. Obama:

I will call you a patriot when you travel through Europe and confidently declare that you are an American citizen.

I will call you a patriot when you go a whole year putting your hand over your heart in the presence of the American flag at every opportunity, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing along with our national anthem.

I will call you a patriot when you clearly, publicly declare that America is right, and terrorism is wrong.

I will call you a patriot when you gratefully acknowledge the limitless opportunity that has been afforded you because of your citizenship in this great nation.

I will call you a patriot when you humbly thank the men and women of the United States armed forces who have paid the terrible price for your liberty and wealth with their very blood.

Until that day comes, Mr. Obama, you do not deserve to have the word "patriot" anywhere near your name, sir.

But, wait. He served America too. He sacrificed for the country when he took a job as a community activist, at”only $13,000.00 a year”. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) It’s the same spirit of sacrifice as John McCain being tortured in a North Vietnamese POW camp.

Obama has said that Americans cannot go on living as we have. We cannot just set our thermostat at whatever we’d like (they don’t even have air conditioning in Europe). We can’t eat as much as we want or drive certain cars. We consume too much of the world’s resources and it isn’t “fair” to the rest of the world.

We must stop using other nations’ oil (that we buy on the open market) and we must not increase domestic oil production either (so we will have to do less industrial production as well as less travel just to adjust to the CURRENT population levels).

We should never have entered Iraq to take Saddam Hussein to task for breaking the peace agreements of the original Gulf War. We must get out of Iraq before the job is completed just to appease the Communist sponsored ANSWER and Code Pink.

His pastor Jeremiah Wright’s “GD America!” and friendship with the domestic terrorist Bill Ayers of the Weatherman Underground, who bombed the Pentagon... NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWww there is NO reason to question the patriotism of Obama.

Sheesh.

"I have never suggested that Sen. McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition,"

Countdown to when someone digs up exactly such a comment...

(campaign handler) Dammit Obama, I said no concrete statements when you're not on the teleprompter! Now write on the board 10 times, "When speaking on my own I will only make vague statement about hope and change."
