Independents, women and Wayne County voters helped boost Democrat Barack Obama to a 7-point lead over Republican John McCain in the presidential race in Michigan, according to a Detroit Free Press-Local 4 Michigan Poll conducted this week. Obama's 46% to 39% statewide advantage is especially aided by a 39-point bulge among voters in Wayne County, including Detroit. Elsewhere in metro Detroit and outstate, Sens. McCain and Obama are virtually tied, according to the poll of 600 likely voters. Twelve percent are undecided and 3% support third-party candidates. Obama has significantly more support among voters younger than 35 and an 11-point lead among women statewide. Among men, the two candidates are virtually tied. Several other recent polls had shown the race tightening in Michigan, which is among a half dozen or so battleground states expected to decide the presidential race. The state has 17 electoral votes.

Romney will deliver Michigan for McCain. Of course with the help our Lord and our prayers.

And if McCain wins, dies while office, we wined up with a flaming Liberal as President.

No state has suffered more from RATs than Michigan, except possibly NJ.

Why do they keep winning?

Guess the folks in Michigan think their vaunted governor Granholm is doing a bang up job and want more of the same nationally.

If socialist policies on the local and state level have put Michigan in a depression, maybe we just need to try those same policies on a national level. Sure, it won’t help Michigan, but they’ll at least feel better when the rest of us share their pain.

Probably many of the same reasons some women stay with abusive husbands.

The liberals/communists are absolutely terrified by Romney! So we'll keep getting their squeeling...always louder the closer we get.

It is my gut feeling (having traveled in the Detroitistan area) that there are too many pro-Islam voters in Michigan, especially in the Detroitistan area for a Republican to win the state. They will prefer a weak and gutless ineffective Dimmicrat administration that will refuse to stand up to radical Islamic fascism.

Obama has 7-point lead on McCain in Michigan
But lead is shaky: 31% say they could change minds.

No. Only Sarah Palin has the potential to sway enough female PUMAs at the same time exciting the republican base, and satisfying the independent voters’ desire of seeking a reformer, a different direction etc.

Sarah Palin is a perfect VP under current circumstances. All the other names such as Romney, Lieberman etc are extremely boring, old... It only reinforces GOP’s the same old, same old image. If McCain goes this path, he’ll lose by a decent margin even though Obama is a radical.

I don’t believe other female VP will be able to save mccain. The other female possibilities are very boring.

“The message I’d be running in places like Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania is one that slams the Democrats for their over regulation and threats of high taxation which is driving companies out of state and out of the country.”

Here’s the problem: People in MI are voting for high taxation and regulation. The demographers haven’t yet calculated the hundreds of thousands of productive citizens that have left MI. They have been replaced by welfare bums, government workers, government retirees and others who suck from the government teat. They all want high taxes.

Hiring shyster lawyers to find quacks to sign off on workmen’s comp or SS disability for welfare bums is a fast and growing industry.

In my township this spring, the fat welfare mommas and their drunk boyfriends turned out by the busload to raise taxes on property owners for boondoogles in the thieving, liberal school district. Needless to say, the welfare bums don’t own property.

Productive citizens are simply outnumbered now by welfare bums and socialists.

When I call MI a socialist/welfare state I’m not using the term for sarcastic effect. I’m talking reality.

MI is a basket case that is rapidly falling into Third World status.

On ebay, you could buy 9 houses in Saginaw for $1,000. That’s not a typo. The realty market is crashing in southern MI and the infection is spreading throughout the state. There are “for sale” signs everywhere. The boarded up downtown districts in rural Michigan look like depression-era movie sets.

The communist governor and the castrated poodle RINO legislature have destroyed MI.

The corruption by both government and businesses in MI is astounding and in-your-face bold. And our RINO state attorney general won’t do a damn thing about it.

Mr. McCain should not waste a dime or a minute in this liberal hellhole. I guarantee that the criminals in Detroit will wait until all precincts report and then manufacture the numbers needed for a nobama win.

ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED!!

If McCain wants a Midwest state, he should go after Wisconsin. The last election was close and I think he can win there.

Interesting. I disagree of course - I think will McCain will crush Obama in the general election so long as he doesn’t choose a VP that will alarm his base (Lieberman, Ridge, etc.), but thank you for the reply.
