A hint? A choice spot for Pawlenty (Sources say Romney not VP)

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been awarded a prime speaking slot at the Republican National Convention, joining at least five others at the St. Paul event who are considered potential running mates for Sen. John McCain.

Perhaps the most atypical convention speaker, and potential running mate, is Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who ran for vice president as a Democrat in 2000 and is now an independent and one of McCain's strongest supporters.

For Pawlenty, the speaking role on the climactic last night of the Sept. 1-4 convention caps months campaigning for McCain, raising his national profile and speculation about his selection as a potential vice-presidential choice.

The fundie-right seems to really like Orrin Hatch. Let’s see they dislike Reid, admire and support Hatch, and are somewhere around neutral on Romney. 95% of Mormons voted for Romney in the primaries. Is that prejudiced or bigoted in any way? I mean what are the odds that 95% of them would all think this new convert was the best of all possibilities?

I think you need to rethink your spurious charges. I think we all need to rethink who are the real bigots. Who are the ones who are really prejudiced here? It is easy for a huge gob without a brain connected to it to make generalized assertions; it is another to offer evidence. Mormons voted for Romney, big deal. Some evangelicals would not vote for Romney. Again, big deal. Romney is nothing special, get over him and yourself.

I think all this Romney talk is psy-ops from campaign McCain, to try to get Barry O to flinch.

Romney would be a mediocre pick, politically speaking, likely to alienate as many or more in the base as he draws in who wouldn't vote for McCain otherwise. He won't energize social conservatives because his record on the issues important to them is mixed--at best.

McCain needs to pick a solid conservative with little to no baggage who will not get picked apart in the debate.

Romney had some exceedingly bad moments in the GOP debates--those scabs would be picked to death in a general election debate.

Liberals use the term “Fundie”

This evangelical fundamentalist (in the original sense not in the perverted sense) would vote Romney in a heartbeat. Stop stereotyping.

We have discussed topics before but can't remember what they were, but this one you are over the top on...I never saw so much hatred for a guy ever. You have always mentioned how much you hate Mormons (IIRC), but sheesh get over it. I have been reading your posts and find it funny that you don't like Romney, but go for that reject Sanford from South Carolina who was asked to give some notes on McCain and could not come up with one single thing. It was pretty dang embarrassing....Now he is someone who we CAN'T have as Vice President. How could he speak for his boss when he can't speak for the candidate now. I was in Ukraine during that disastrous interview (Foxnews no less) and was embarrassed that it was on World Wide news. Normally people don't make fools of themselves on the World Wide news...sickening. Why you have a crush on him I am unsure...

He's not very exciting...he was on with the Friends this morning and you know them, they always joke around. They asked if he would be a better choice over Mitt and then if he was the VP and he just replied all serious that he couldn't discuss that...such a bore.

Pawlenty is a smooth talking debater who women won’t be threatened by.

He knows political sweet talk for centrists.

"You have always mentioned how much you hate Mormons (IIRC)"

No, I haven't, buster. You go produce one post where I wrote that EVER. You owe me an apology for that claim.

"but go for that reject Sanford from South Carolina"

Reject ? Now you're proving yourself both a liar and a shill and a liberal for Slick Willard. Do you fear a real Conservative with a record of accomplishment who has never lost an election and actually tells the truth and does what he promises ? Fact is, you know nothing. Mark Sanford is a giant and you and your boss Slick Willard are termites.

Both the males and females shilling for him on FR harbor perverse sexual fantasies about him. I’ll bet if he were fat, bald, and middle class (and, gasp !, Conservative) you wouldn’t hear a peep out of these same folks.

I’m referring to some of the posters on FR who go on “cult” etc. rants about who is and isn’t “saved”.

They’re the Right’s lunatic fringe.

Pawlenty did captain a sinking ship to shore. Ditto with Carcieri. If you are going to blame Pawlenty for the MN GOP setbacks, then should Carcieri be blamed for RI being a one party state?

Pawlenty had the MN House and half the federal delegation and most of the statewide offices. With his reelection, he lost the House, lost a winnable Senate seat, a House seat, and ALL the other GOP incumbents in statewide office and only barely won a plurality over a buffoonish opponent.

Carcieri never had a House majority. The legislature of RI has been, since the mid 1930s (with only a couple of occasions) Democrat. The best he could hope for is to whittle away some seats here and there, and he’s met with mild successes (a Newport seat that had been Dem for decades fell to the GOP with his help in a recent special). Although the Senate seat fell on his watch, the incumbent himself was to blame, as he was as far apart from Carcieri on the issues as to be to the left of many liberal Democrats. Had he moved rightward, he might’ve saved his seat.

Carcieri hasn’t gone out of his way to harm party interests or the Conservative cause, and just the other week, he decisively moved on the illegals issue that earned him the enmity of the panderers (a far more timid individual would’ve gone hat in hand to apologize, he told them to pound sand). In a state that is overwhelmingly Democrat, he has performed remarkably well, and stands to (if he leaves office on schedule in 2011) leave the state in GOP hands (depending upon the nominee). He’s an example of a private business leader who does a good job against the odds and gets little in return (especially scorn from the media for doing the right thing). This is the myth the Slick Willard supporters claim of their candidate when it’s really Carcieri that embodies that success, both in private AND in public. Means what he says, does what he says.

I think there is a difference in stating what Scripture states regarding salvation, God, etc., and applying that to the teaching of cults verses looking at individual members of a sect or cult and saying “you are not saved”. Now, they may give enough evidence to say to me that they aren’t saved (i.e., one who doesn’t believe in Jesus at all would have a bit of a hard time meeting Christ’s own requirements concerning salvation when He said “I am the Way the Truth and the Life and nobody comes to the Father but by Me”) but just because someone is currently attending a religious organization that equates to a cult does not mean that they automatically aren’t saved. In other words, it isn’t what is over the door but what is in the heart. I don’t know what is in your heart or anyone’s heart unless they tell me, and even then they may be lying. So I can’t rant about someone being saved or not saved. I can say, based upon what this person has said, they don’t get it per the way Bible spells out salvation.

They seem to play the Mormon card like blacks play the race card. Its just to deflect critisism from their liberal.

Never once have they been able to explain away Romney's anti-gun, pro-queer, pro-abortion record. They can't so they play their Mormon card.

I couldn't give a crap less about his religion, but the fact that he is a flaming liberal puke would cost McCain the election. He is worse than Ghouliani because Rooty didn't lie about his liberal puke record!
