Flashback: The obligatory “I think I probably have a much higher IQ than you do” clip

“There’s a bit of C-SPAN tape that should surface quickly if he’s named,” predicted Kaus two days ago, and now — courtesy of C-SPAN, no less — here it is. Read Ed’s post from Thursday before you click or you won’t recognize the various lies as they whiz past. Having now watched it, I’m surprised it caused him such grief at the time: While the sentiment is nasty, his demeanor isn’t, and the guy it’s directed at seems to take it in good enough humor. Egotistical, loudmouthed, and affable — it’s Biden being Biden. Exit question: What’ll end up getting more buzz as this clip circulates, his attitude or his hairline?

Wow, what a flashback. I remember that election well and the Dukakis campaign sent Mark Sasso after him because they saw Biden as the biggest threat to Dukakis in getting the nomination.

Well this election, Biden is going to have credibility issues in going after McCain. Every time Biden tries this, all McCain has to do is roll out the tape of Biden saying what a great American McCain is and how he would be honored to run with him for public office someday. (As well as the tape in which Biden says that Obama is not ready to be president just a few months ago.)

Wow, it’s going to be tough to figure out who is more arrogant ... Obama or Biden?

"While the sentiment is nasty, his demeanor isn’t..."

That's actually his M.O. That phony, oleaginous smile never leaves his face.

Consider this scene, from a month after 9/11, when some laid-off airline pilots came to him to plead for help:

Rhetorical Question
by Michael Crowley
Post Date October 22, 2001

It's a bright early October morning on Capitol Hill. Joe Biden is bounding up the steps of the Russell Senate Office Building, wearing his trademark grin. As he makes for the door, he is met by a group of airline pilots and flight attendants looking vaguely heroic in their navy-blue uniforms and wing-shaped pins. A blandly handsome man in a pilot's cap steps forward and asks Biden to help pass emergency benefits for laid-off airline workers. Biden nods as the men and women cluster around him with fawning smiles. Then he speaks. "I hope you will support my work on Amtrak as much as I have supported you," he begins. (Biden rides Amtrak to work every day and is obsessed with the railroad.) "If not, I will screw you badly."

A dozen faces fall in unison as Biden lectures on. "You've not been good to me. You're also damn selfish. You better listen to me..." It goes on like this for a couple of minutes. Strangely, Biden keeps grinning--even fraternally slapping the stunned man's shoulder a couple of times. When we finally head into the building, Biden's communications director, Norm Kurz, turns to me. "What you just witnessed is classic Senator Biden." [...snip...]

Was this clip filmed back before he changed his name from Cassius Clinton to Biden Ali?

So let me get this straight. He thought he didn’t want to go to law school and ended up in the bottom two-thirds of his class, then decided he wanted to stay in law school and ended up in the top half of his class... According to his math he is saying he went down after he decided he wanted to say. What a genius.

Joe Biden, Mr. Big IQ, is so brilliant, he can plagiarize other people's words and everyone else is too dim to catch him at it ... right?

Joe Biden: a towering ego crowned with a transplant of hair.

IHe provides the Obama campaign with "gravitas", eh? ;-)

That’s an excellent article on Biden. Thanks.

Brings to mind Murtha where if you don’t play by his rules you’re going to catch hell.

Power and inflated egos seems to be the norm nowadays..

Yeah, I caught that too. It cracked me up. There’s alot of math illiterate people out there that are very intelligent though. Rush Limbaugh comes to mind.

There is no non-problem that Joe Biden will not attempt to face head on, no non-issue that he will not confront. He is a man of non-action with an unusually high perception of his non-intelligence.

I guess we can assume that Senator Biden will not agree to any townhall-style debates with his GOP rival... What a loon (no offense to any loons out there).

And when Biden spoke before a meeting of Democratic senators shortly after the September 11 attacks, to explain the importance of the use-of-force authorization he had helped craft, he received a standing ovation. Afterward California Senator Barbara Boxer approached Biden to say, "Thank God you're here."

This also is the article where Biden wants to send $200 million check to Iran. Good article, lots of insight into this bloviating blowhard who makes AlGore and John Kerry look like church mice.
