GOP VEEP CHOICE: RECONSIDERING KAY
Posted by: Michael Medved at 2:28 AM
Most importantly, her conservative credentials are solid and far more consistent than either Romneys or Pawlentys. The American Conservative Union gives her a lifetime rating of 90.27, and a 2007 rating of 88placing her among the more conservative Republicans in the Senate.
On abortion, shes always called herself Pro Life and NARAL Pro-Choice Americathe leading pro-abortion lobbying group has given her ratings of mostly 0% (like McCain) and never higher than 20%.
She worked for a while as a legal correspondent for a top Houston TV station before winning election to the legislature in 1972.
During a break from politics, she became a bank executive and won conspicuous success as a business woman the kind of private sector experience that Obama, Biden and McCain all lack. Her executive and administrative expertise includes an acclaimed term as Texas State Treasurer before her election to the Senate.
Ms. Hutchison served three terms in the state legislature, a term as state Treasurer, worked two years as Vice Chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, and won landslide victories in four different U.S. Senate elections. Shes moved up steadily in the Senate leadership currently ranked number three among GOP members of the Worlds Greatest Deliberative Body.
When it comes to debating Joe Biden, she should do very well and draw big ratings for only the second candidates debate in national history (after Geraldine Ferraro vs. George H.W. Bush in 1984).
Hutchison may not count as the most exciting individual in American politics, but her selection in the current campaign context could be electrifying.

I’ve been saying this for 3 days now, she would be a great vp nominee.
Very nice woman.
She would do nothing for the ticket — just another Senator is all.
Won’t be another Texan, like Bush.
I agree. He should select a female.
Indeed, she is a very nice lady. She has the same birthday (different year though) as Bob Dole.
Border squish, abortion squish, no Exec experience. Just another long-timer in the Senate.
HUH? She would do nothing for the ticket?
I agree with you. Just because she’s a lady, doesn’t mean that this lady will get all thrilled. I would like someone with executive experience, especially at this time.
No, I believe she wouldn’t. They passed up Hillary. Being a woman this election doesn’t particularly mean anything.
We're ailin' for Palin
Go Sarah!
Gov of Alaska my choice.
At least she would be coming from one of those states that really count in the electoral votes, but if John McCain if from the West he probably be best to pick someone from the East. Just my two cents, what do you all think about this.
I believe McCain has Texas in hand. What other states were you thinking of that I might have overlooked?
Well one thing we do know is that selecting a female running mate will be a strategically smart decision. Picking Mitt Romney will be a Biden-like mistake. Even worse maybe.
You never pick a VP with baggage. Evidence of that goes back a long way and in modern times one can start with Tom Eagleton in 1972 for the track record of presidential candidates who pick VP candidates with baggage.
True. But she has the same woman's disposition as Sandra Day O'Connor.
In any confrontation, KBH won't try to ascertain which party is "right". Instead, she'll try to negotiate a compromise that is "fair".
See her "stand" on amnesty, for example.
She simply isn't temperamentally equipped for an executive role.
