I still think McCain's best choice is Mitt Romney.
She worked as a legal correspondent for a top Houston TV station before winning election to the legislature in 1972.
During a break from politics, she became a bank executive and won conspicuous success as a business woman the kind of private sector experience that Obama, Biden and McCain all lack. Her executive and administrative expertise includes an acclaimed term as Texas State Treasurer before her election to the Senate.
Her margins of victory in all her Senate races testify to her enormous vote-getting ability in her home state -— she won with 67% in the special election of 1993, then drew 61%, 65%, and even 62% in the notorious Democratic year of 2006. Shes an effective campaigner with a proven gift for connecting with every voting bloc in Texas. Unlike Geraldine Ferraro, theres no problem here of a thin resume: in addition to her private sector experience, Ms. Hutchison served three terms in the state legislature, a term as state Treasurer, worked two years as Vice Chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, and won landslide victories in four different U.S. Senate elections. Shes moved up steadily in the Senate leadership currently ranked number three among GOP members of the Worlds Greatest Deliberative Body.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas, who has been more consistent in her public comments, voted for a $3 billion measure to build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers and to beef up the Border Patrol.
Sarah Palin is the brilliant choice for a sure win.
No experience.
Thanks for clueing me in, I didn’t know whether McCain had it wrapped up or not. As far as other states go I wouldn’t know, but do know there are some states that weigh alot more then other and Texas is one of them. As far as most of the New England States don’t most of them go for Democrats, and if so would it be worth trying to get enough votes from them to win them as states.
1. I’m from Texas, and I don’t think she’s all that conservative. I’m frankly holding my breath until she retires from politics.
2. What does another Senator with little/no executive experience do for McCain? I’d far, far rather have him nominate a governor with significant economic knowledge for Veep - and, no, I’m no Romney-bot, either. However, he seems to be a pretty good fit, as well as being able to bring Michigan and one or two other states over. Personally, I’d rather see SC governor Mark Sanford - who’s a genuine conservative - be nominated. He’s the one who brought two pigs, named “Pork” and “Barrel” to his Republican-controlled state legislature, to shame them for overriding his vetoes of outrageous spending bills. THAT is the kind of guy we need, not KBH.
"Weak pick. The Democrats know they're in big trouble."
She’s no friend of the border.
I won't vote for Mr. McCain if he selects Ms. Hutchison.
Well, if you call counsel for one of the largest banks in Texas, co-founder of Fidelity National and NTSB head for two years nothing, what the hell soes anyone else in this race (on both sides) stack up against it?
Plus, I wouldn’t mess with her - Hutchison proposed the “District of Columbia Personal Protection Act,” which drew 31 cosponsors in the United States Senate, while drawing 157 cosponsors from the House. This bill would have dismantled the handgun bans the city has had for thirty years. DC’s law states that one may possess a rifle or shotgun as long as they are disassembled and inoperative, but not pistols. The law was recently struck down in a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
Look North To Alaska if you want a gal that will do all of us proud.
Heck John you've got the experience of 10 Obama binBiden’s right up thar in your old head. Us old guys would go for a young smart chick helping you run the country. Palin certainly isn't bad on old eyes and she is smart as a whip with lots of common sense.
I guarantee that she would put you over the top.
Sincerely
OKIE and Mrs DOC
It’s bad enough to have one senator on the ticket. Two would be too weird. Let the RATS risk their luck with it.
Besides, I am really hoping for a lawyer-free ticket. Kay is a lawyer.
I think the best thing to do is pray that God will guide Sen. McCain to pick the best possible VP to help defeat Obama in November. I’ve given up trying to guess who’d make a good VP candidate. In 2000 I thought Cheney was a bad pick and he turned out great. I initially thought Quale in 1988 was a terrific pick and he was a disaster.
If we take a look at current female GOP Governors, we have these individuals:
Alaska - Sarah Palin (upsides, apparent Conservative with some populist streaks. Downsides: contending with a situation of corrupt federal Republicans that could end up flipping an all-GOP delegation to 2/3rds Dem come January. Too green, as she only held major office less than 2 years).
Connecticut - Jodi Rell (upsides, superficially popular, 4 years as Governor, 9 prior years as Lt Governor, reelected by a respectable margin despite a corrupt prior Governor she was serving under. Downsides: near-total party collapse on her watch from majority GOP federal delegation in the House to just 1 member. Is not regarded as a Conservative).
Hawaii - Linda Lingle (upsides, made breakthrough as first GOP statewide elected official since 1970 and first GOP Governor since before 1962. Downsides, has been unable to raise anemic GOP levels in the legislature, which have shrunk on her watch. Is a Social liberal. Ugly rumor: Is a closet lesbian).
I could review prior female GOP Governors of the past 2 decades that could potentially be chosen if you’d like.
Rell and Lingle are actually to the right of a former MA governor(Not by much, though)
Most of the Democrats in my state are to the right of you-know-who.
Yeah, I haven’t heard anything much in a long time, either. It just seemed like she hasn’t been able to get much done from what I understand. She may also be biding her time, waiting for the two octogenarian buffoons to kick off in the Senate seats and go after one of them.
Musing about Sen. Tom Eagleton for a moment, it probably hurt McGovern more in unceremoniously tossing Eagleton like a hot potato rather than standing by him (especially if the psych gave Eagleton a clean bill of health).
What about Huntsman of Utah? Why isn’t he under consideration?
