The RNC Meets to Draft Their Platform: Sparks Fly on the Issue of Illegal Immigration
Fox News ^ | 27 Aug 2008 | Shushannah Walshe

Posted on 08/27/2008 3:06:57 PM PDT by BGHater

All eyes may be on Denver this week, but the Republican National Committee began their meetings to draft an election platform today ahead of next week’s convention. Sparks flew when delegates got into debate over illegal immigration, which reflected where John McCain originally stood on the issue, but has now taken a more conservative stance.

Delegates were split into different subcommittees and it was in the national security meeting where members got into heated discussion surrounding the issues of amnesty and English as the official language of the United States.

Two delegates wanted to harden the language surrounding the issue of amnesty. The draft read, “We oppose amnesty.” But, delegates from North Carolina and Colorado wanted to include opposition to “comprehensive immigration reform” because they believe it is a code word for amnesty. This sparked a heated discussion between members with a delegate from Washington DC who said that the Republican Party is a “not a xenophobic party, not an intolerant party. We are a compassionate party that insists on the rule of law and endorses federal law,” said Bud McFarlane. Kendal Unruh from Colorado, who wanted to include “opposition to comprehensive immigration reform” to the draft, seemed to take offense to that statement citing her missionary work and saying that she would “never have the label” of xenophobic “slapped on me.” She continued to press that the committee add the tougher language to stop “behind the door tactics” to prevent “amnesty” of illegal aliens.

McFarlane was joined by several other members including from borders states such as New Mexico that said if the amendment was added it would give the impression that the Republican Party was not interested in fixing the immigration problems facing the country and the Republicans had “historically welcomed immigrants.”

They’ve already tossed ANWR in the trash so I don’t see much point in voting for the Rinocrat platform.

Supporting amnesty illegal aliens is the same as surrendering this country to them.

Not to worry.

They will replace it with the wiggle-wording secure the borders.

After all, McCain has already promised La Raza that he would seek Comprehensive Immigration Reform (aka, McCain-Kennedy; aka, Amnesty for Illegals) within the first months of his presidency.

I think McCain knows this, but still fights for illconceived rinoism. I really hope through all of this McCain sees the light of day and turns into a conservative. Bush surely didn't, but had a chance and just totally moderated giving us a DBM/dem controlled congress.

McCain and repubs will pay an unrelentless price if they don't move out of the rino realm of loserville.

This is potentially huge, IMHO. If this debate is not won by those of us who want this problem solved many of us just won't vote for McCain. If they think this is all in the past and no one is still hot on the issue of amnesty by whatever name you choose to call it, they're risking the loss of the White house to a communist. Maybe things have to get a lot worse.

My love for country can NOT TOLERATE McCain!

With McCain as our nominee, who needs enemies?

When the GOP or McCain ask for money to support McCain, print and send them one of these.

"But we STILL have people here
trying to convince us
it would be better than voting for Obama"

Vote Bob Barr.

I think this would be an excellent amendment and if the RNC allows these multi-culti rino’s to stop it then they are doing themselves a great disservice. It should be mentioned at the convention early and often. This will resonate with Americans as well as drilling for energy here and now.

It says in the article that we already lost the fight on this and it will remain “We oppose amnesty”. Those that wanted to add in the comprehensive immigration reform language lost. They really, REALLY don’t get it. At all.

Maybe things have to get a lot worse.

..the problem with thinking that way is it would take years to correct SCOTUS decisions made by a BHO appointee...stuff like Roe and more!. Hillary as a Supreme? (possibility) No way, it is much easier to hold their feet to the fire while in office, politico's, wherever their hatched don't always carry out their promises,TRUE....BUT when you have a choice, that particular gamble, is just not worth it. The time is NOW,you just don't turn it over to an appeaser, gutless wonder, carter like, empty suit, who thinks the US can operate without fossil fuels in 10 years. WTF, does he think the US airline industry is going to invest in giant ******g rubber bands?

...stepping down off my soapbox, I gotta get some coffee

The same rhetoric we heard from Bush in 2000. McAmnesty will help further the erosion of this country.

“not a xenophobic party, not an intolerant party. We are a compassionate party that insists on the rule of law and endorses federal law,” said Bud McFarlane

Then what's the problem, Bud?

Let's insist on ENFORCING the laws...and not rewarding lawbreakers.
