BOISE, Idaho - A longtime sex offender was sentenced to death Wednesday for the 2005 kidnapping, torture and murder of a 9-year-old northern Idaho boy after federal jurors who watched video of some of the brutality deliberated just three hours.
The jurors' recommendation was binding on U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge, who thanked them, dismissed them and then sentenced Joseph Edward Duncan III.
Relatives of the victim, Dylan Groene, remained somber as the jury's decision was announced. Duncan murdered Dylan's mother, older brother and his mother's fiance to kidnap him and his younger sister, who was sexually abused along with her brother but survived.
"We're happy with the verdict, but it's a shame this should have been limited to one death," said Steven Groene, the father of the children. "He should have had the courage and the guts to kill himself before killing anyone else."

My hope he is given what he gave while he is in prison.
We all know where that monster will end. He’ll be tortured like that poor boy was for all eternity.
I saw a picture of the murderer, and he looks like the epitome of evil. His actions make me believe that the devil is a real spiritual force in the world.
I cannot see how anyone who reads the details of this case can possibly be for a total ban on capital punishment. The Catholic Church is dead wrong on this issue (which, by the way, totally disproves papal infallibility).
As to your not being grateful to be alive, if you were not, there would be one less who gives a _____. On the other side of the coin, you can be active to get laws written to protect children, and keep scum like this in jail when they hurt one of “His” little ones. This kind of pathological perversion is not fixable. This was NOT also, this scums first offense.
I volunteer to kill the SOB.
Oh, please, there are prayers daily for FReepers that would be more than grateful for a few more years.
Duncan's a monster, like the Green River killer or Arthur Shawcross. There's not that many of them, but they are memorable. The jury did their duty.
Wikipedia
In 2004, Duncan was charged with groping the genitals of a six-year-old boy. He was arrested in April 2005 in Minnesota. The judge granted bail at $15,000. A businessman in Fargo, Joe Crary, gave Duncan money for bail.[1] When freed, he skipped bail.
Hopefully someone in the prison population will do us all a favor... and do it slowly and painfully.
Moronic statement—You need to bone up on what Papal infallibility means.
I don’t believe the Church has an official position—ex-Cathedra, or infallible, against the death penalty.
And the Bishops don’t speak for the Pope. He speaks for himself.
Thanks for playing, though.
No infallible pronouncements concerning the death penalty exist.
This is one thing I do not understand from your comment. How do you know about the horrors this criminal commited unless they were conveyed to you in words?
How did Duncan manage to get away with all these atrocities?
He didn't get away with these atrocities. He has been found guilt of them and will be executed.
What does that say about the human race in general if we take over 20 years before we start to give a s***?
Well, it might say that a just society is more patient than a society ruled by immediate revenge.
After hearing this story, how can one be grateful to be born into this hopelessly evil and absurd world? I am not grateful to be alive.
That is a quite natural observation of the world and its life, backed by a quite natural attitude. This is what I would call the stoic or Buddhist attitude. Life is a mistake filled with suffering. The solution is to escape life.
There is of course the other attitude that I would call nature worship. Since nature contains both beauty and cruelty, it is permissible to pursue both. The criminal in this case seems to have pursued both, using murder to pursue sexual gratification.
But there is a third attitude that I will call Aristotelian, thought the word by itself is somewhat ambiguous since people of rather differing philosophies have called themselves Aristotelians. But what I mean by this is a recognition that the world is real, but not perfect. The world is, however, potentially perfect. Therefore life is worth living because it has its source in perfection.
That is the answer. He was not put away permanently or killed soon enough.
"Early criminal history
Duncan has a long history as a violent sexual predator, and was clinically diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder in 1980, while in prison for raping a younger boy at gunpoint.
In 2004, Duncan was charged with groping the genitals of a six-year-old boy. He was arrested in April 2005 in Minnesota. The judge granted bail at $15,000. A businessman in Fargo, Joe Crary, gave Duncan money for bail.[1] When freed, he skipped bail......."
The system had a chance and it failed.
I would recommend that you get closer to the Lord Jesus, The Christ.
Maybe another pedophile/murderer? Wonder why else this man would give Duncan money for his bail.

This is truly the most disturbing and sick thing I’ve ever read on here. In fact, nothing I’ve ever read on FR even comes close to this. This is an example of the types of things I’ve read on liberal forums where they love and defend vicious, cruel murderers. The criminal just pursuing both “beauty and cruelty” and since “nature contains both beauty and cruelty, it is permissible to pursue both”.
Since you did not put any distance between your own positions and the one you call “nature worship”, which any decent person would do in no uncertain terms, then I think you have some explaining to do.
Either that or another bleeding heart.
I don’t think the Catholic Church is always against the death penalty.
I did some research. Turns out he was a sex partner with Duncan, as was a Dr. Wacksman who also gave him $6,500 at some point in his criminal career, for legal services. The Doc is a pediatrician. He offered to let Duncan stay in his home where he had 2 young children. Courts wouldn’t let him put his kids at risk that way. The Doc and Duncan met at a tea room in San Francisco—guess for what purpose? Easy to answer. It’s a place for anonymous gay sex.
Amazing to think that so many "respectable" men were involved - they share some responsibility for these atrocities.
This is certainly a reminder that this is a fallen world.
