IDENTITY THEFT: JAMES WOODS PROVES CRIME DOES NOT PAY
Janet Charlton's Hollywood ^ | 8/28/08 | Janet Charlton

James Woods, who played an LA prosecutor on Shark, has set a great example for dealing with identity theft. Woods told Michael Glynn at The Enquirer that he was horrified to learn that someone had charged thousands of dollars on his credit card. The crook had bought a computer and purchased two VIP tickets to the recent Dave Matthews concert at the Staples Center in LA for $3,700. The fraudulent charges were deducted from his bill, but James was determined to find the guilty party. He called the Staples center and cleverly told them he hadn't received his tickets yet - that he wanted to verify the correct name and address. Incredibly, the crook had used his own real name and address. James realized he'd eaten at a restaurant just blocks from where the crook lived. He then called the restaurant and tracked down a guilty waiter. Woods handed the info to the Beverly Hills police and they arrested the guy.

"...The crook had bought a computer and purchased two VIP tickets to the recent Dave Matthews concert at the Staples Center in LA..."

LOL...did anyone ELSE read this one line and say to themselves: "Uh huh. That about sums it up perfectly..."

What Mr. Woods saw was people who arrived together sit widely separated (evenly spaced), then simultaneously get up and move to strategic areas of the cabin.

This must be why airline flight attendants routinely warn passengers not to congregate near the front lavatory.

My son had his wallet stolen and the creeps went on a huge spending spree. We went to the stores and got the videos showing the perps. The police and county attorney refused to arrest or prosecute them. Pima County, Arizona.

This is why whenever I pay for a meal with a credit card or debit card, I usually will cross out everything but the last 4 numbers of the credit card # when they give me the receipt to sign. Reduces the temptation.

Also many people write "CHECK ID" in the signature box on the back of the cards.

I do not even recognize the current Algore as the same man. It is very depressing.

I agree.

The Gores really "went over to the Dark Side."

It is against the law for any receipt to show the full credit card number.
If you recieve a receipt that shows the full number, throw a fit. Or call Visa and complain. Those machines were supposed to be replaced years ago.
The only way a crook should be able to get your # is when they have the card in their hands and copy the #.

Only the last 4 #’s should show on any receipt.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned the episode of “Family Guy” where Peter Griffin’s identity is stolen by...James Woods!

According to Hollywood legend — who cares if it’s true — she crazy-glued his privates to his leg.

They show you both of those usually....the “merchant” copy and the “customer copy”. That’s when you mark out everything but the last 4 of the #.

Woods is an extremely bright guy. He got 1580 on his SAT test, meaning he missed (I think) one question.

Too bad he had to track down the perp himself. How tough would it have been for the cops to do exactly the same thing?
These days when you call the fuzz about a crime all you get (if anything) is a stenographer who writes down the details and does nothing further.

I know. That’s why I asked about the crook running two slips. If you obliterate the numbers when you sign it, it could already be too late.

Yes, you have to be cautious, but a determined thief isn’t necessarily dumb or unmotivated.

I meant two sets of slips.

Someone else mentioned that it is now illegal for the full number to print on the credit card slip so your plan shouldn’t even be necessary.

“Great guy! Unlike many Hollywood celebrities, James Woods is the real deal. He’s a conservative. “

LOVE James Woods. Dolly Parton said he was the best kisser in Hollywood.
